It's a stock auto. 1990 Chevy Camaro Rs V8. He was just sitting at idle and then the car shut off as if he had pulled the key out(no wierd noises or anything), and then it would turnover but wouldn't start. All the wires are hooked up to the distributor, has gas in tank, fuel pump will do the 2 second prime, all fuses are good, air cleaner is good, if we put gas in the intake it will start but die after the gas is used, so we hooked the red test lead wire under the hood for the fuel pump to the positve terminal of the battery and could hear the pump running tried to start the car and the same thing happens turns over but won't start, so with the pump running I took off the air cleaner and twisted the throttle with hand and looked inside intake and could not see any gas what so ever going in. Could anything other than a clogged fuel filter cause this? Do you think it probly is the fuel filter?

Yeah, sounds like its not getting fuel. Check the filter.

The fuel filter is the cheap fix.
Given a guess from what you've told me, and the Chevrolet fuel system, I'd guess that the fuel pump is dead.
Just because it's getting power and running, doesn't mean it's actually functioning.
This is a common problem with vehicles that have electric fuel pumps, and a bit of a nightmare for vehciles with in tank pumps.
Pull the fuel filter and see if gas is actually moving when the pump primes as the ignition is switched on.
I'd be willing to wager on the pump being bad.

Cars do not start for 1 of 2 reasons, electrical or fuel.
For fuel, you either have a bad fuel pump, clogged fuel filter, or dirty injectors.
For electrical you either have a bad starter, dead battery and/or alternator, or a faulty ignition system.
Some things are cheap and easy to do and may fix the problem, but if they do not you may have to replace something more costly or have some professional work done.
The simplest things you can do is clean up the battery posts and cables, recharge the battery .. put it on a trickle charge overnight, replace the fuel filter, replace the ignition system (it should just pull right off), etc.

Never GUESS what a problem is. Is this car fuel injected or carb. The way you explain it i'm guessing carb. Fuel filters don't clog. They may cause problems but enough fuel would pass to at least start. If it is injected then you have a fuel pressure regulator that could be a problem. You need to disconnect the fuel line and put a pressure gauge on it to see if the pump is putting out.

Gonna need to know if it has multiport or throttle body to go further with a diagnosis.
Remember just becauser the electric fuel pump is working doesnt mean it's working at the right pressure. If fuel pressure is too low it's a problem.
Replace the fuel filter first cuz it's the cheapest thing to check. After that you're probably going to need diagnostic tools.

could be the filter, unhook your fuel line next to the filter somewhere, hold it away from you and let someone try to start the car and see if fuel is coming out, if it is your fuel pump is good and it means the filter is stopped up

Change the fuel filter, if that dosent help you might not be getting enough volume or pressure, even though the pump kicks on for 2 sec, it might not be pushing enough through. good luck

you need to check if the injectors are getting a pulse. If they are not then look at the injector circuit. If it starts by giving it fuel maybe the injectors are not working. Also how much fuel pressure is there?depending on the injector type it needs about 15lbs for throttle body injection or 45lbs or better than that for multi-port.Check these two things.I am a licensed mechanic.
