I've always wondered about that--we have had the techology for many years to have real voting--majority wins. It must be politically advantagious to the parties, but really it is not a fair representation of the people's voices.

I vote because I am obligated to do so as an American citizen, it is a right and a duty that I am proud to do.

I do not agree with the electoral process.

California is trying to do away with the full Sate electorate. I agree if it is nationwide and based on population not County or land area.
This is not the thinking in California, but would be the fairest.
Unless The USA simply becomes a Democracy like we are currently spreading throughout the World.

Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley signed into law Apirl 12/2007 a measure that would circumvent the Electoral College by awarding the state’s electoral votes to the presidential candidate who wins the most votes nationwide.

The bill… makes Maryland the first in the nation to agree to let the national popular vote trump statewide preference. It would not take effect until states that cumulatively hold 270 electoral votes — the number needed to win a presidential election — agree to do the same.

Each state has a set number of electoral college votes, depending on their population. Each States overall electoral votes go towards the candidate of whoever had the most votes in that state.

So basically lets take Bush and Kerry for an example, if the majority of people in Arizona vote for Bush then Bush gets Arizona's electoral vote.
They don't just vote for whoever they want, they vote for whoever the people of their state wants.

The electoral college is there because the voters sometimes don't know what the hell they are voting for. They cast most of their votes against somebody.

From what I see here on a regular basis, it's a good thing we have it.

Our vote is suppose to "influence" the votes of the representatives in the electoral college...technically.

It also keeps from states with high populations skewing states with low populations. It would be lopsided to say the least.

I vote because I earned the right with 20 years of military service. If you don't want to vote go ahead.

It gives many dimwits a sense of participation in the electoral process.

There should be a test for ability to vote, I think ownership of land would be good.
Then you could do away with the electoral college.
