The formula for slope is ysub2 - ysub1 divided ny xsub2 - xsub1,..
1.) ysub1 = 4
ysub 2 = -3
xsub1 = 2
xsub2 = 2
if you will use the formula,... the answer would be 7/0 and that is undefined/ does not exist,... and it is a vertical line
2.) ysub1 = 1
ysub 2 = 7
xsub1 = 2
xsub2 = 2
if you will use the formula,... the answer would be -6/0 and that is undefined/does not exist,... and it is a vertical line

Slope of line between two points (a,b) and (c,d) is nothiong more than
(d-b) / (c-a).
So for question 1 we have:
(-3 - 4) / (-6 - 2) or (-7 / -8) or 7/8
For question 2 we have:
(7 - 1) / (2 - 2) or 6 / 0. Kind of a trick question :)

well this is called the slope formula: (y1-y2)/(x2-x1)= slope. Or an easier way to remember it is "rise over run".
Q1) (-3-4)/(-6-2) = 7/8
Q2) (7-1)/(2-2) = inf, this means that the slope is infinite because the points have the same X value and would form a vertical line.

start with the formula
y = mx + b
m = y1 - y2
_______= (1-7)/(2-(-6)) = -6/8 = -3/4
x1 - x2
Now solve for b using one of the points
4 = -3/4 (2) + b
4 = -6/4 +b
4 = -3/2 +b
5 1/2 = b
y = -3/4 x + 5 1/2
on the second one,
1-7
___is indeterminate because division by 0 is undefined
2-2
you could say the slope is undefined

slope: change in y/ change in x
m = (-3 - 4) / (-6 - 2) = -7/-8 = 7/8
m = (7 - 1) / (2 - 2) = 6/ 0 this is not allowed!!!
this is known as no slope, since it is not a function.
