Am I only responsible for what is written in the medical file (procedures done, etc.) or can items that are not written in the file and found at a later date be chargeable to me?

What sort of emergency medical procedures were needed & were they the result of your pet (eg: unexected complications) or the veterinary practitioners (eg: they made a mistake during an operation [shudder]). If the first then I would say that you'll probably have to pay. If the latter then you shouldn't be responsible for it.

This is just an educated guess on my part. Legal advice would be a good idea, also pet insurance for next time.

If they did not initially disclose an amount to you and then later try to charge you i would have to say "first contact a manager at the facility and tell them that you think they are trying to defraud you and/or someone in the company is trying to use your account as a dump account to make up for stolen medicenes and such." Ask them to drop the charges that were billed "after" the fact and at least explain to you in writing why they think you owe the money.

if they dont drop it or explain it well enough, you would need contact a lawyer and ask them if what they did was legal and if there were any more options.

ultimatly you may have to pay the bill but you can always file a Better business beaurou complaint if not resolved to your liking.

You are responsible for the charges for the medical services rendered to your pet. Generally your vet will give you an itemized bill detailing each procedure/medical supply/drug used and the charge for each item. If you have a question about one of the charges ask your vet about it.

I'm confused, there are charges that were added later that weren't performed? Or procedures you didn't authorise? Any procedures should be noted in the chart. If not I would question it. If they aren't legit or the vet doesn't have a good explaination then seek out legal advice. If they are legit charges then obviously you should pay them. I hope you sort it out! Best wishes.

I find that charges found later are questionable. Anything done to your pet should be in the records now. If not, how can your pet be treated properly. I assume you took your animal to the vet and that makes you legally responsible.

He's your pet, so you're in charge of paying for his medical costs. If someone else hurt him, you can always ask that person to help pay, or take them to court if they won't. But that's time consuming and unlikely to have a good outcome. We need more details!

I hope your friend is ok. Pet insurance is always a good thing to have.

If you didn't sign for it you shouldn't have to but usually on the form in little bitty writing it says it is just an estimate and you may be responsible for other charges incurred.
