This may sound odd, but it works great and is non-toxic....
Mix together about 75% Vinegar, 25% water and a few good squirts of lemon juice in a gallon jug or something. Shake well. Put in a spray bottle (can reuse spray bottles if needed or you can usually buy one at most stores for less than $2). Spray the tub well with this and let sit for about 5-10 minutes. Then use a wash cloth and rub/scrub the tub and most if not all will come out. Once the Vinegar dries, it will get rid of all the smells also.
Repeat if needed.

It depends on the type of tub. If it is fiberglass you do not want to scratch the gelcoat coating if you do you will never get it clean again. It will have to be re gelcoated. Clean it with a non abraisave if it is fiberglass the you are suppose to actually keep a coat of car wax on it. Yes wax it just like a car, it does not make it as slippery as you would think it would. Do not leave bathmats in the bottom after showering or bathing it will form perosity (small air bubbles) and will also ruin the fiberglass finsih.

Borax works well on both porcelain and fiberglass, so it works wonders on tubs/showers. Use a wet sponge and sprinkle some borax on it. Then wipe down the tub with the sponge. It is a great cleaner, stain remover, deodorizer, etc... Plus it leaves the surface with a great shine.

One of the best cleaners for the tub & shower I have used is clarifing shampoo, Soap sum is mainly dead skin cells, body dirt &fats from the soaps used.Clarifing shampoos are made to remove oils and dirt from your hair. You just need to pour some on a damp rag and rub the tub and shower, wait a few minutes then rinse. The shampoo doesn't have harsh chemicals to worry about and it smells better too.
Suave makes a great one and it's cheap too.
Or you can use Prell if it's really dirty.

My sister used to clean apartments after tenants moved out. She claims Krud Kleaner works the best for everything. It is available at both Home Depot and Lowes.

Fill your tub with really hot water and pour in about 3 cups of bleach and let it sit until the water cools.... Drain and wipe out the inside.. The soap scum will be soft and easier to remove.. You can also spray the tub/tile surround with 50/50 bleach solution and wipe with a cloth.. good luck

The Works! toilets bowl cleaner. Nasty smell but it is powerful. Don't get it on the chrome fixtures though. the acid will sometimes turn the faucets blackish. Rinse quickly after you apply to surfaces.

I found that a good dose of elbow grease, and any cleanser you can buy at the store, will do the job wonderfully. The elbow grease is the important item. God Bless you.
