Mine didn't hurt from the insision really, mostly the muscle that they had to cut. You will find keeping gauze on it and keeping it dry will be the best thing for it. Mine healed very quickly and had my staples removed about 2 weeks...you will be sore for a little bit just take it easy!

Well I took advantage of the full 5 days in the hospital. Then they removed my staples before I left. Which by the way, the removal of the staples is really easy. I was scared and thought it would hurt, but I barely felt a thing. The hospital gave me gauze to keep over it and changes for it. I would wear dresses or nightgowns for the next week or so, the irritation of anything rubbing on it can make it worse. My doctor also prescribed me prescription strength Tylenol for the pain. After you visit your doctor for your 2 week check up (which may be your 4 week since they are taking your staples out late) they will give you the okay to start using things such as mederma. When the incision is healed use mederma, rubbing it on with one or two fingers rubbing in a counterclockerwise motion. This will help keep the scar from puffing out. Your incision will heal a lot sooner than you think. looking at it you may think it will take months, but will actually look great at 3-4 weeks. As far as walking, I would take it slow each day, and sleep and sit in areas where you don't strain to get up. I don't know if you do, but breastfeeding will also help you heal faster (as painful as finding a good position might be). The body has an amazing way of healing. Good luck, and hopefully this is your last c-section...they get more painful after each one.

When I had my first child, I also had an unplanned c section. It is going to be painful for the first week or two, but after you finally get the staples out, it really does heal quite fast. Just make sure you take the pain meds that your doctor prescribed. As far as keeping it cleaned, I would shower every day and I would put a maxi pad on it with the sticky backside against whatever pants or underwear I was wearing at the time. That keeps the incision dry and clean. I will warn you, about a day or two before your staples come out, the incision will probably get very painful , but as soon as the staples come out, whew a big relief! Just try to take things slow and relax. As long as you take it easy, you will actually heal up quickly. If you have an questions, email me.

I had an unplanned c-section w/my daughter and I just used a very soft cloth to wash and wipe the area. Of course I didn't have staples so I don't know how different having those are to having stitches but I lightly and carefully cleaned the spot w/soap and water and I healed up within 2 weeks. At first I couldn't walk alot and if I had to go to walmart or anything I would use those electric scooters. But by 2 weeks after I could lift carseat and laundry baskets and it was tender if i pushed on it but was able to walk better and bend over and sleep better. I also had a bad cough and it made it hurt alot but I wonder if it helped heal a lil faster due to getting used to that pain. Good luck and congrats on new bundle of joy!

I had an unplanned c-section as well almost 2 months ago. There's not much you can do to clean it because you're not allowed to have water directly hit it. But I would use a clean washcloth and gently dab it, and then pat it dry. But why do you still have staples in? Are you still in the hospital? Because the pain from the staples shouldn't last too long since they normally take them out before you leave the hospital. If you have any other questions, feel free to email me.

Give it time. I started to feel better one I got my staples out. Once they came out, I felt I was able to stand up like a normal human again.
Just take it easy, but keep up moving around. But, not to much. The moving around will help you get better faster, it will help get healthy blood to the scar.
Also, make sure you keep on on your pain medication. Don't wait until you feel really bad before you take more. For the first week or so, make sure you take your meds every 4 hours. (or what is recommended by your doctor, might be more or less depending on your dosage and medication)
To keep it clean, fresh water with a mild soap is what my doctor recommended. She also said after my shower, to use a hair dryer on the cool temp to make sure it is really dry. Then make sure it stays dry throughout the day.
So give it a week, and you will start feeling better again. Then each day that goes by you will start to feel better and better.
Good luck!!! Know the pain will not last forever!!!
I had an emergency c-section two and half years ago, and I am going to be having a planned one in about 5 weeks from now.

Ok....I have had two c-sections...the first was unplanned...I had staples, but the nurse removed them just before I left the hospital...they sent me home with a pain killer, which of course, knocked me out cold...so I slept all time(I placed that child for adoption). I was in pain when I sat and then stood up, or bent over, or laughed/coughed hard. I just took it easy for a couple of weeks. My second c-section (planned) wasn't quite as bad....I only had Motrin for a pain killer. I still had some soreness of the muscles, but I had to stay with it, as I had a new baby. A suggestion to keep your incision clean, wash with mild soap and water, rinse well, and pat genly to dry. A secret to keep your underwear from sticking to the staples, if you don't want gauze it to put a Maxi pad over your incision. This does not stick to the staples, or if you have some leakage, (which is very normal, as long as it is not green) it won't stick to that either. If you have anymore questions, feel free to email me...and by all means, don't hesitate to call the maternity ward at your local hospital...after all, they are there 24/7....Good luck to you and feel better soon....gongrats on you new little one!!!!!!!

Well it all depends on your pain tolerance. Dont bath for 4 to 5 days. Just clean it with water and pat dry it.It should be okay as long as you aren't getting it dirty, but I'm sure your not. Make sure there is no redness, warmth, swelling, fever, or any kind of drainage report to doctor. Do not lift anything above 10 pounds! When you get up hold a pillow against you for support. It will help ease the pain when you talk or laugh also. As your activity level increases your pain level will decrease but take slow only what you can tolerate! Good luck and Congrats!

Everyone here had the right advice, just use a mild soap in the shower but let it run over it. Also as I can see you are a mom of 4, which is going to make it really difficult but get as much rest as you can, have family members help you. Also drink plenty of water and continue with your prenatal vitamins, this will help you heal, so that you are more like your old self. Trust me I have been there, and will be there again in 9 months, found out today I am preggers : )

I know what you are going through.... it took me two whole weeks before I felt myself.... they way i would clean it was to stand in the shower and take the shower head ( mine is hand held) and let the water hit it...... then when i would get out of the shower i would gently pat it with a towel.... GOOD LUCK AND I HOPE YOU GET TO FEEL BETTER SOON.,..
I dont want to scare you but just to let you know that the staples will come out on their own and some of my hurt and some didnt
