Not necessarily. In fact, there's a magazine on the newsstand specifically for Catholic feminists. (No word on whether the Protestants have one.) If you take the Bible literally, you're more likely to be an anti-feminist, but if you simply believe in peace and goodwill to all men (AND WOMEN), you're in.

Sigy, as a dedicated feminist & Christian, I would like to say that it doesn't. However, there are churches that do. There is a difference between studying the bible and understanding what the bible says and following a church philosophy. Truthfully, a lot of the churches have grown cold, and, are completely out of touch. They are a social event, and, don't focus on the word of Jesus, or, they are a showplace with hypocrites that gossip of one another. A leader of a church has to know the true derivative of the bible. How it came about, and, in what context the events occurred. Modern churches often use one passage and think that it entails the bible, or applies to today. However, a lot of the "rules" set forth be Jesus, were meant to be followed by the Jews, and, they applied specifically to the Jewish customs & holidays. They didn't ever apply to the rest of us. Also, there are 2 lines of English translations of the bible. The bible has some interesting history, and, the leaders that say they are Christian are often the worst offenders. They are the ones that don't believe in equality. They are offensive to women. Personally, I was lucky enough to find a pastor with a masters degree in religion, and, he studied Greek in order to be able to translate from the original biblical documents (1600s)

That depends on what you mean by Christianity. Rio Madeira is right, the Bible is far from equal in its treatment of people based on gender, but Jesus was pretty progressive for his day. I don't think he (or He, if you believe in the divinity of Jesus) would be against feminism if he were alive today.
Christian organizations, on the other hand, are often patriarchal. That's a conflict with feminism, because feminism's whole purpose is to allow women the same political, economic, social, and religious potential as men.

it depends on what you're interpretation of feminism is. Christianity generally promotes equality for all, whereas some feminists have warped the concept into meaning same priveleges as men, but fewer responsibilities (mandatory enlistment in selective services. i.e. the draft). i don't know about others, but i really don't think there is much of a difference between men and women in todays society.

not at all. If you research the lives of early female Christian saints, you will find liberated and intelligent women given tasks that no "weaker" sex could ever do!
And Mary's role in the early church and as an evangelist (NOT TO MENTION MOTHER OF GOD!!!!)
certainly shrouds her as the New Eve. She was no shrinking violet! She stood proudly and took every part of her duty to heart.
Christianity was the beginning of women being seen as equal to men in many ways, including martyrdom.

It is based on one interpretation of religion, I believe that all humans are viewed as equal in the eyes of God, And if that's good enough for him, then by all means it is good enough for me. No conflict.
