No. Since it hasn't worked anywhere, why would it work here? Look at Venezuela's leader, Hugo Chavez. He has had to suppress all other political parties to maintain control. He controls all media. He wants a socialist paradise. How is he going to get it? Jailing anyone who doesn't agree with him.
Socialism doesn't work.

communism is government in the hidden- preach this and do that policy.Breeds massive corruption & repression-the brains for advancement have to be locked( refer to history).Socialism-which type? Is democracy not a type of socialism where society is involved?Or another type like the once "soviet socialist republics"- in fact communist republic.
Neither can work at the western ways of life apart from a system of democracy modified with bits of socialism ( and private collectivism often misunderstood for communism.)
refer to history and the mentality of the societies. Unless checks and balances are observed all political systems give the same results at the end of the day- the grabbing mentality of rules are the same but through different angles.
You may jump to say Cuba is doing fine.Let us see after Fidel is gone and the results at the immense sacrifices the people have had to make or forced into a habit that die hard .
{ Now they think other wise and so behave- no way out The well dwellers will find it hard to move to oceans and breath fresh air! But with time all could be OK-if only there is a change in the politics.}
Additions:
Follow Red China too .Embraced democracy and doing fine- still much to do especially at corruptions and quality in good sit exports- only a growing democracy as any (even USA- which has a long way to go). And the Russia of Putin which is much behind China ( forget its gas and petrol ).They forgot the most essence at politics - the human factor .They repressed the brains- thoughts had to aired ( brains stormed )and learnt from mistakes much earlier.This is not the place to discuss all this still a glimpse for those who wish to think out the least of the three evils - socialism, communism and democracy where ever they be !
Forget not a the centre is HUMAN BEHAVIOR the positive rescues and the negative depresses down to a halt.

They are both economic systems as is capitalism. What people get confused with is totalitarian communism.
Communism is based on need and in some societies it would work especially if large population is mostly poor people. But, under communism it is more of a distribution of wealth.
Socialism does work in some of the northern European countries. That system is based on more people pushing the bus then riding. Under that system one can get ahead and do well. Taxes are higher but the benefits out way it.
The USA is socialist quasi capitalist. Capitalist is based on supply and demand.
If in your area there are 100 jobs and 50 applicators the wages go up if there is 50 jobs and there is 100 applicators the wage goes down. The USA with globalism makes sure there is more people then jobs by high immigration. More immigrants we have come in lower the wages, do to competition for the jobs. That is why we really aren't capitalist but quasi.
Now government rule are like Anarchy/ chaos or self rule both have no central gov't. then there is Dictatorship, Monarchy. Socialist state, Theocracy religious rule and Democracy/ Republic is what the USA is.
Communism wouldn't work in the West. Socialism if everyone put in to the system would work but with our mass poor and welfare system it can't.

No. Because it has to stamp out freedom, and no intelligent person no matter how threatened or propagandized, can continue to live for very long without freedom. Sure everyone is for taking away some freedom of someone else's, but they all get mad when you expect them to sacrifice some of their's.
