That is the way people are: even when they say they don't care what other people think, they still care. After all, no one wants to be alone or lonely; no one wants to be left out; no one wants to think they are unimportant.

Because mainly that's what somebody has taught us. If nobody have told you to say thank after receiving for example a gift, how could you say it out of the blue for your own wish, no, that is a gesture that has been learned, the same I think is the feeling of have to "care about" what people think about me.

because no matter what ppl will have opinions about you. the key here is just tell yourself they dont know you and if they did kno you they wouldnt be talking smack. they dont kno your situation and why you do the things you do. its there fault. not yours.

PS: ur not insecure like the other ppl said. its normal

i do care cuz it makes me want to beat their @$$ sometimes if they talk about me but those people don't know me from a hole in the wall. they can't say anything true about me as a person because they haven't been were i have been and i haven't been were they have been . I just brush it off and wait for the next idot to start spinning gossip about me and i laugh cuz they look stupid. Don't let it bother you

because the human mind feeds off of confidence..if you have high self-confidence then you feel good about yourself..and if you have bad self-confidence then you won't feel too great..and one of the main sources of confidence comes from compliments and/or insults...therefore you try to please everyone around you so they like you...and again that makes you care about what others think about you...another great idea is that people these days just aren't used to following their own voice..they tend to do and think what other people tell them to do...so start following your own voice..and in time..you'll see that you won't care what other people think..also..do whatever you want..even if everyone around you stares at you and they all think that you're crazy..because there are many people that admire that characteristic in someone.

Good Q! I think that to some degree we need validation from others. The problem is when we cannot validate ourselves and look for approval outside ourselves one hundred percent. Learning to be comfortable with ourselves is one way to be less defendant of what other people think of us.

Some are just designed that way. We seek approval for self validation in hopes that it reassures us that the path we've chosen or the way we look is good.

Because we try so hard not to think about them, but they are still their and their words are painful, I know exactly what you mean. Even though you know what they say isn't true, you still feel hurt at their painful words.
