XBOX 360 you can burn songs onto your hard-drive and the only real disadvantage the 360 has when compared to an MP3 player is that is not as portable and the fact that an MP3 Player is going to cost you less money.
Other reasons
The 360 just recently had a price drop.
Halo 3 is comming out on the 25th (September)
Apple makes a new kind of MP3 Player about ever 3 months, where as microsoft really has made any drastic changes to the 360.
Note: Do not get a PSP it probably the worst system ever made their are no real good origional games on them. Their all just craper ports of PS2 games and the PSP can only hold like 2 to 3 gig-bytes of memory.
Also any 360 can be effected with the 3 red lights but microsoft has a warenty on their systems that last for 3 years from date of purchase so you just send you system to them and they will repair/replace you systen with a new one free of charge you dont even pay the shipping and you get your system back in about a week depending on where you live. Their is also a really easy trick to fixing the three red lights prolbem its called the towel trick so if your system has this prolbem then just look this solution up on youtube its really simple and I cant believe that it works but it dose as my friend has done it when he had the lights, but i wouldnt wory to much about this prolbem.

Wait a month or two than buy a 360. If you are going to buy an mp3 player go for a zune. (wait a month or so before buying the 360 because they are fixing the ring of death problem on it right now and there are still defective 360s on the shelves.)

Neither. Find something better to spend your money on.
But to answer your question on your terms I will say go with the xbox360. You can always burn mp3's onto CD's and play them in your car or wherever. I keep like 40 mp3's on my phone so who needs an mp3player anyway? Also, the xbox will give you more bang for the buck. You can definitely spend more time on the xbox before you get bored than you can listening to your mp3player.

why don't you save up and by a psp. you get an mp3 player and a game.

i say neither because if you save for a psp or get one on ebay u can play music videos photos games and get on the internet plus homebrew i haave a psp and i love it and it is portable!!!!!!!
