Assuming you're reporting the conversation accurately, he did not break any laws. And since the other person jumped in to claim he'd been reported before any "incriminating" conversation could occur, it sounds to me like someone who is playing at "decoy" to mess with people and isn't actually connected with any law enforcement program.

This is why doing the chatroom thing is not normal. there are people in rooms that will say that and not be real. However the best rule when you go in chatrooms don't mention cyber nor anything sexual. Just conversation. Also if you read the yahoo disclaimer the government gets tapes the track every on line user. They do this through your ip address. This is part of the terror act. So the best rule once again is keep it clean or stay out of chatrooms. You are being watch maybe not by someone in the chatroom but you are being watch by the government.

Yes...searching for a minor an the Internet is illegal, but because he is a minor too, I don't think they'd do anything.....the person may have just been trying to scare him so he would go away or they could have been serious, but don't tell him that the person could have been a fake because if he continues he WILL get in trouble by someone...I praise the person who reported him because they were protecting any kid that could have responded....there are crazy people in the world that could be posing as a teenager to attract young kids...freaky world=freaky people

I think it was someone playing with him because if it was a under cover cop they wouldn't say anything they would have waited a while until he said he wanted to meet her somewhere for sex, it is nothing wrong with chatting online as long as you don't talk about having sex with anyone under 18 years of age.But I doubt it was the police though.

Becaues he is 14 I severely doubt he would get in any trouble, but hunting for girls under 18 on the internet is a federal crime if you are of legal age.

I don't think that's illegal, but if I was 12, I might find that a little creepy. The person might have been joking. I doubt anything is going to happen.

well you're not supposed to ask juveniles stuff like that but since he himself is a juvenile I don't think he would get into much trouble if they in fact did "go after him" but a lot of creepy men (over 18) claim to be young so they can talk freaky with youngsters. Just tell your friend not to ask for that anymore because it's just asking for trouble.

NO! Albeit, there are some perverts out there that the system is trying to nab for using the net to snare young people.

catch him do what?
whoever she was she was not someone who catches people online..they have specific rules and guidelines....if he was 32 and knew the girl was 13 AND sent nude pics or soliceted her for sex..that'd be a different story...

what the heck is devora talkin about? SEXUAL PREDITOR???? Not likely
