Why does it happen in dance?

Wow, yeah, that is WAY too revealing for a 10-year-old kid.

Is there an instructor or person above the person ordering the outfits that you can complain to? And believe me, no one wants to see little kids in thongs, unless they're perverts.

Best of luck to you!

You're getting mixed responses because you didn't clarify whether the thong is to be worn under the costume to avoid showing panty lines or is actually the bottom of the costume. Needless to say, there is a huge difference. ENORMOUS difference.

Many of the other answerers don't seem to realize that even younger ballet students are not allowed to show panty lines on stage. This is just standard in dance. Of course, ballet dancers would be wearing tights under their leotards or costumes (and usually nothing else), so that would remove any concern about panty lines. A jazz outfit (or whatever dance style the team is doing) is no different. If dancers aren't wearing tights or pantyhose under the outfit, then the alternative is a thong.

Also realize that even young boys must get used to wearing a dance belt under their costumes for ballet, and those things fit exactly the same way in back.

The biggest issue that you mention is that the costume is too revealing. That is usually the problem with these competition dance teams and part of why I frown on the whole competition scene for young kids. Outfits do NOT have to be revealing for young kids and you won't find them at the serious ballet-based studios.

Do u mean that they had 2 wear thongs under their costume, because when i have 2 wear my dance costumes, since i was like 5, we're not allowed 2 wear any underwear @ all!! it just looks more professional, but i wish we were allowed 2 wear thongs! But dancers usually wear revealing clothing, its just how everything is. But i mean if its like Britney spears the 13 year old pop star revealing, i think it's fine!!! Just so long as everythings covered up!!!!

I assuming you mean the team said she had to wear a thong UNDER a costume. Dance costumes are designed to show off the dancers legs, arms and back. They probably asked her to wear a thong so it wont be haging out of the costume, and a thong elliminates panty-line. If a thong is the bottom of the costume then you should report that to officals. That sort of attire isn't allowed in most competitions, and is just wrong for a ten year old to be wearing.

Can you get any of the other moms to agree with your position?

I don't know why it happens in dance ... maybe because the dance teachers are only 24 and don't have 10 year old daughters?

You might switch your daughter from dance team to a more traditional dancing school, or even to ballet only. I understand and appreciate many forms of dance but dressing children like full-grown tartlets is inappropriate in any art form.

If you do not like the dress code, then I would say sayonara to the dance team.

I'm sorry...but 10 year old girls should NOT be interested in their pantylines showing through their clothes.

Remember, you are the mom (assuming you're female here), and your gut feeling should always come first, no matter how hard it is to say no to your daughter.

My daughter is 11 and VERY shapely, and I would never in a million years allow her to wear, as we jokingly call it, "butt floss". LOL

When she's 18 and able to make her own clothing purchases and considered an adult, whatever, but to me...I'm sorry, I know I'll get negative remarks from others...a 10 year old girl needs to focus on her school work and friends...not how her underwear looks under her clothes.

At 10 years old, your daughters should not be wearing that kind of outfit. Talk to the school, something is wrong. How revealing is the custome, for heaven sake?

That sounds really crazy, but for dance do they mean like the kind of shoes? They sometimes call lyrical shoes foot thongs, don't ask I know it sounds silly. =] But if it's an outfit, that is really messed up!

That needs to be reported to the right officials.
Perverts love it when we make our little girls look womanly. That's how they excuse their perversion by saying we made them think, feel, or do it.
Keep you little girl, a little girl.
What is this world coming too? This kind of stuff makes me scared for the other little girls on the team and other teams everywhere!
