We are "logical". We are either superior or inferior. We are arrogant or humble. We view the world in such terms and what is often called polarities. Until people understand the nature of logic, they will always attempt to create the "positive" aspect.
Immortality is the fear of being forgotten. Immortality is the fear of a painful death. Immortality is the fear of being punished for the actions of one's life. Immortality is the compensation for a crappy life -- after all, in heaven it will be different. All religions that I have examined address the fears of the local and larger community.
The Mediterranean cultures had gods of the waters. They lived near water. Other cultures that were inland never had to develop gods as they were rarely exposed to the fears associated with swimming, fishing, drowning, etc.

i think of people who somewhat have those understanding are proficient, aside from instinct. everybody has that. None of those are evil. instinct: organic human ability; probably tied to the survival instinct. Prophecy: easily non secular; the flexibility to be sure worldwide activities or the way forward for particularly some human beings; the revelation is quickly from the better capability. Predicting the destiny: might desire to be non secular or a organic ability, reckoning on the guy. this could incorporate the two prophecy and fortune-telling, IMO, and can desire to be in keeping with psychic understanding, or an honestly revelation from God. Fortune-telling: it somewhat is the two non secular and organic, reckoning on the guy. The fortune-teller desires another merchandise to accomplish the "telling", including a deck of enjoying cards or runes, and so on. consequently, i could say it somewhat is maybe non secular in maximum cases, as there seems to be cooperation from some exterior supernatural source. The fortune-teller isn't a prophet. Psychic understanding: There are distinctive varieties of this, and that i think it rather is a organic skills. a guy or woman has developed (or improve into fortunate adequate to have been born that way) areas of the innovations that the conventional guy or woman would not use. faith: Christian spiritualist

Oh, that flattery of self sustains only till a person really embarks upon a spiritual quest, seeking ! After that, a person painfully realises, how tough the journey is to retain that awareness, consciousness, all through, to avoid pitfalls, recycle bins, etc !
Well, the gift is that self-awareness! It is unique to just humans, and very unfortunately, those who do not maintain awareness about it, easily slip below not just sub-human levels, even below animal levels(note that animals harm or injure other life forms only for survival , not for pleasure).

Mankind assumption of giftedness is on and of itself a diminishing factor of their alleged moral superiority.
How can presumption and arrogance equate to moral superiority?
On the other hand, true humility does not under-state commendable qualities in people. If under free will and an assurance of no negative consequences, a person chooses to do what is true and good, then that person - by virtue of his free choice - can claim to himself a moral success and would be justified in doing so.

God has given us many gifts; however, spirituality and morality, which is certainly attainable by all of us, is a matter of individual choice. In John 12:36 Jesus advises, "While you have the light, believe in the light, so you may become children of the light." I would add that, when you believe in the light you will see the light and your path will lead you to wisdom.

because they alone are gifted with a spiritual and immortal principle. ha
(edit)
to Andria -- not clear on concept: Mankind (oldfashioned term) means people / humanity, not gender-specific, doesn't mean "men" per se...
HAND (have a nice day) & just a touch of levity in otherwise usually-ponderous subject

Self awareness or self consciousness, self reflection in the other is imperceptible. However, I am not certain your question is wholly true. The first stage in human development is hope.

The Erikson life-stage virtues, in the order of the stages in which they may be acquired, are:
hope
will
purpose
competence
fidelity
love (in intimate relationships, work and family)
caring
wisdom

Why do(?) mankind believe that they are so important as to be granted spirituality?
You are inferring that mankind is a homogeneous entity and that this entity believes as you state, this is a fallacy in itself. Your question, I fear, does not pass the philosopher's first muster.
