I actually think it would make you look uglier.
I'd see the bag and be like, "What is she trying to compensate for?"
Then I'd look at your face and be like, "Oh, yeah! That's what I thought!!"
If you just dress to blend in, nobody will notice your hideousness.

I can't possibly even try to answer this question because "ugly" is such a subjective term and by adding the "expensive Gucci bag" you also made the question superficial. However, If this was meant to be tongue-in-cheek you did a good job! Some of the answers here made me laugh and I've enjoyed the segment. Thanks for that.

Ugly is a subjective concept. If you are ugly and put on a Gucci bag I guess you would not only be ugly but would look foolish.

Our reality is based on our beliefs. Anyone who is ugly is only comparing themselves to a segment of the population. If I were a betting person, I am sure that we could find others to compare you to that would prove you are not ugly.
A Gucci bag does not change your perception of yourself or the perception that others have of you. Anyone who believed so, is someone that I would actively avoid.
Of course, if you stop comparing yourself, you will no longer believe that you are ugly and you could save the money spent on the newest Gucci bag. Although, adding a pair of Prada shoes or Chanel boots would probably create a killer look.

Yes. It wouldn't make you any less ugly, it would just mean you have an expensive bag.
In fact, I happen to despise people who buy expensive crap like bags and shoes. I hate materialism. So I'd be inclined to find you more ugly.
Having said that, if you were a good, kind, honest person... then that would make up for it.
By the way, why the hell is this in Philosophy?

You'd still be ugly. You'd have a nice bag. People will go OOh and Ahh at the bag. They will oggle the bag. It doesn't make you any less ugly, it will just make people look less at you, and more at the bag. The bag is just a distraction. You are still ugly. Rich looking ugly.

not unless you put it over your head. but it would have to be a pretty gucci bag. some gucci bags are pretty hideous.
seriously, people seem to think what they wear makes them pretty/popular.
you're only as ugly as you act. one of the most "beautiful" women i know is the angriest, cruelest, most bitter person i know, and that takes away from her physical beauty.

if you are ugly then a bag won't make you un-ugly. but if you think the bag will make you not ugly, then won't be ugly. because it is up to you if you are ugly or not and up to the Gucci bag.

You still look ugly but with a bag. Unless you decide to do a full makeover then you wouldn't. In terms of guys, if a guy looked ugly but had tons of money then he would attract a ton of women because having money means having power.

You would still be ugly. But some people would see your nice bag and say COOL and think you were rich and not ugly.

Depends who would look at you. A materialistic person would find you beautiful but a non materialistic person would not have a clue that you spent money on Gucci. Beauty is $$ for materialistic person and personality and soul content for non $$ obsessed people.
