when people think goth, they associate it with depression, cutting, violence, etc. if you can show your parents that you aren't any of those things, then there's no reason they shouldn't let you wear black (or however you are trying to express your Gothicism). more than likely, they are just worried about you.

Being a parent myself I know it might be hard to let one of my daughters dress like you would like to, but our local newspaper did an article about a school that didn't allow their students to dress goth and they interviewed some of the students who were protesting because they thought it was unfair and it helped me realize these kids were just like other kids and they were smart, good, caring kids who just wanted to dress a certain way - in other words, it helped me not "judge a book by its cover" so whenever I see people dressed goth I now don't assume any certain thing about them - I try to keep an open mind......so maybe if you show your parents what a good kid you are and keep your grades up and have lots of interests, maybe you all can come to some kind of compromise - something like maybe you could dress like that on the weekends, but not for school or maybe you could find some happy medium between what they want you to wear and what you want to wear - I'm sure they just want the best for you and maybe they don't understand how important it is for you to express yourself in a way that might be different from their way - just be patient with them and show that you are a responsible kid in lots of ways and hopefully you can compromise.....life should be give and take and if you show you are willing to give in other ways, they will give back as well.....GOOD LUCK....I'm not trying to completely defend them, but I'm trying to see things from both perspectives.....also keep in mind it is only clothing and nothing you wear should define you as a person......best wishes to you.....

comprimise and see if your parents will also. Not meaning get just your way. They know its a phase, and probubly afraid. Lots of goth styles get a bad wrap for being troubled kids. Respect yur parents and they will respect yu. Find a middle ground.

well my son is goth since 15...now 20 and i have done nothing but support him...bought all his clothes etc...cuz i love him unconditionally but in ur sad situation, all you can do is get a job, pay for your own clothes, and if necessary, keep then at a friends house so u can change into them whenever u like!

Why do you concider yourself Gothic any how? Is it the style of clothes or the action of your friends? Personally, I agree with your parents. Most people dress the way they do to make a statement of who they are. Your statement says a lot about you and your parents don't like the statement you are trying to make. Remember, be who you are, don't be a statement.

Remind them that you are not Goth you are yourself and like the style of clothing. Goth is a culture...not clothing.

I agree, parents are afraid that if their child dresses too differently that they won't have friends and they might think that their child is depressed or something.
There are a lot of negative connotations now a days, if you're totally set on that...I guess talk to them about it and explain why. Just keep bothing them, it'll break them down eventually.
