I love comics, but I wonder w/ the internet and illegal downloads of comics like they were music can the actual paperback trade be a thing of the past soon. Is it just going to be digital comics and graphic novels. I personaly like reading a comic either way but I prefer the real thing. What do you think will be the future of the paperback comic?

The paperback versions might. But the real comics lovers will make sure that the best of the best will be preserved by scanning them and putting them on CDs, this is now happening in many countries where comics are a big thing and an imporant part of the culture. For the new ones, I guess they will still be hand-drawn, but immediately put online rather than into paperback versions. I'd love them to stay on paper though, that's one special feeling when you take up a comic from 30-40 years ago and remember the exact time and place of the first time you've read that issue...

No they will change and survive as they have since the 1930's. Comics came close to dieing in the early 1950's because of fear that they caused juvinal delequents. However with the creation of the now defunct Comics Code Authority they survied. Then they died off as childrens television took over in the 1970's but the came back again in the 80's. Comics are on a down swing right now but will come back with good stories and time.

You could ask the same question about magazines and newspapers. Comics may be getting less popular in the United States, but in other parts of the world they are still doing quite well. In Europe for instance there are still piles of comics at grocery stores, bookstores and magazine stalls and most families have one or more subscriptions to weekly or monthly comic magazines. A magazine like Topolino (Mickey Mouse) in Italy is the best selling anything (books and magazines) and sometimes sells over one million copies a week in summer months.

The traditional comic book are still going to be made even though this is the digital age. It's the same reason why movies are shot on 32mm film, newspapers and magazines are still in print and music is recorded onto vinyl. One word: grassroots. There are people never forget the origins of where things started always keeping the tradition alive for generations to come. Without grassroots people stand on nothing but dirt.
