It has been a long conflict between India and Pak on the Kashmir issue. Despite being a democratic country India has never earned support from U.S. What may be the reason?

Kasahmir looks like a beautiful place from the photos I've seen, I hope that a lasting agreement can occur between Pakistan and India.
I suspect most of the American public couldn't find the place on a map, which is pretty sad. Probably the biggest reason why the U.S. government hasn't given India the support that you would hope is because of politics. The U.S. government wants Pakistan's support in the conflict in Afghanistan and they would likely lose that support, if they clearly choose sides in Kasahmir. Whether the U.S. gets any genuine support from Pakistan is another matter, however I do think Kasahmir is one of the places with the greatest possibility of conflict in the world.

The US has long been ignorant of "Eastern" affairs. US military efforts in Korea and Vietnam were essentially to stem the spread of communism, they weren't centered on the people and cultures of Asia. The conflict that continues over Kashmir is to some extent a remnant of colonialism that was predominantly British. I doubt the US sees Kashmir as a place for intervention- particularly since Pakistan now (if temporarily) represents a political ally against Bin Laden et al.

Kashmir is an integral part of India. End of matter. What others think is not important.
