Currently I am in a workplace with approximately 2/3 men and 1/3 women. Currently one woman throws temper tantrums adds sick days at the end of vacations, just alot of drama. Another woman is pretty cool but it seems she has no immune system. She was bitten by a single ant and now can't walk. Its just that last month it was something else. I don't work in a male ego environment, so its pretty peaceful...I know because I have been in those environments before. A previous woman working here had considerable animosity towards one woman. What's up with all the drama? Any thoughts?

I'm not saying that all male workplaces are not without there own set of problems but this can't be my imagination.

Don't interpret this question as woman bashing. I am also working on a master's degree under a female advisor whom I specifically chose to study under because I knew her and I knew I would get alot out of it.

The women get the same salaries as the men and there isn't any harrassment from any males in my department...if there was I'd be aware of it.

I currently work in a setting that is 100% women. With the exception of the 3 male clients we take care of. I must say it's terrible. The women can be so cranky and catty. We used to have men working here and it seemed to balance us out a little. Men just seem easier to work with, and are more laid back. This must be why most of my friends are men.

Having worked in both majority male and majority female AND mixed workplaces over a long-ish period of time, I have found that all types offer plenty of scope for enjoying the never-ending drama of the everyday.

What I do is, remember I get to go home after 9 or so hours and treat it all as entertainment, without getting involved.

I mean, who cares, really? If that's how they want to spend their working days, good luck to them!

Cheers :-)

Are you asking if your limited experiences are typical of the rest of the world? All I can say is that when folks (male or female) are happy/content in their job, sick days are at a minimum. Perhaps the 2/3s males are making the 1/3 females sick because of unfair treatment, inequal pay scales, harrassment, lack of communication or just being in boring jobs - I mean, who knows what the bottom line is - what I do know however, is that you must be tiring yourself out jumping to all those conclusions.

Well, men can have their share of annoying workplace habits. One favorite activity is "roaming". I seldom see women doing this but I have often seen men doing it. What they do is wander from desk to desk and chat with the people there all the while not doing any work themselves. Another annoying habit is making unwelcome and unsolicited suggestions. I guess it makes some feel more important.

Here's where the Drama comes from:
- Product of somebody with no life, an "attention whore", exaggerating, twisting, and misrepresenting every small event in an attempt to gain attention and special privileges.
Add to the Warren Farrell facts that 4/5 women prefer flexible hours over higher pay (reverse true for men) and you have another reason American productivity is going out the window.

Warning:
- Do not mess with this woman, most are unaware at the power they have in the workplace. 1 False accusation and you're fired, you're name is in the paper, and you're facing thousands in legal fees to exonerate yourself.
She has already proved she can lie, cheat, whine, and manipulate to get special treatment, thinking she wouldn't do anything to male coworkers on the drop of a hat is messing with fire.

Solution:
- I'm sure you keep it light, friendly, and casual - let her work record get her booted and don't be in the same room with her when no one else is around.

Men vs Woman in the workplace:
- Women will concur there are many vicious women who seek to knock them off, conspire, and get them fired.
Women will also concur men are relaxed, focused, supportive, and a pleasure to work with in many environments. We have testosterone - the natural chemical that allows us to focus at getting 1 task done. Women have estrogen, the emotional drug that drives some to multitask (which is technically a bad innefficient trait) and gossip.

Doesn't it seem weird that women are supposed to be the ones who communicate better but when it is an environment of women it is alot of drama and cattiness, jealousy and backbiting? With men we get pragmatic about our differences and concentrate on getting the tasks at hand done.

I've found that men are more relaxed and controlled in the workplace.
