Dick Kinzel (CEO of Cedar Fair, operator of Geauga Lake and neighboring Cedar Point) has finally gone senile.
Let's crush a 119-year-history, upsize the water park while flattening the side that can actually operate more days out of the year compared to a water park, while using the word "exciting" to describe the change, when Cedar Point has it's own INDOOR water park just up the interstate. I'm from Texas, so forgive me if I just don't see how an outdoor water park in Ohio can be all that exciting.
Did he hire Kieran Burke, the fired CEO of the practically bankrupt Six Flags, as his consultant? This was the man responsible for totally flattening AstroWorld in Houston.

geuaga lake is already closed. i doubt that they will reopen it unless they sell it to another company. Cedar point pretty much has an amusement park monopoly over northeast ohio so i highly doubt that geauga lake will reopen. the water park on the other hand is still open and will probably remain that way. cedar points waterpark cannot compete with geauga lakes so if that water park is included in a cedar fair pass, it would still get a lot of business.

While it sucks to see the amusement park being shut down after so many years, they're not closing the doors completely. They are just relocating the rides to other Cedar Fair parks, and are concentrating more on just keeping the area as a water park. You can always check here for more information (and rumors): www.screamscape.com.

Nope, they won't change their mind. I knew something fishy was going on there after they took out two coasters last year, and since they didn't repair Raging Wolf Bobs this year, I knew that the place was going to be gone soon. It's terrible that the place is closing, and it's probably just so there isn't a competitor for Cedar Point!

wow! i haven't been there in about 11 years. didn't think it would close. but i bet that if they are closing the park itself, then the waterpark won't last much longer. at least with regular amusement park rides, they can stay open later in the year. waterparks in the northern states have to close in like september. well, i guess that there is competition from other parks too. if they don't make the money, they can't stay open. and if they charge more to get in and to park, then people will stop going because it costs too much, you know?

It's very sad. It's just like when Euclid Beach Park closed, (way before my time, of course). And also when Sea World closed. I used to go to Sea World with my grandparents when I was little.
Unfortunately, the land's just too valuable.
The good news is that you're not that far from Cedar Point.

OMG. I used to go there all the time! I can't believe it. I just went on their website. It looks pretty convincing, there probablly not changing their minds. Hopefully they won't get rid of everything in the park.
