This is horrible. Geauga Lake (located in Aurora, Ohio) has so much history, going back to 1888. Do you think that they'll change their mind? It's one of the best parts of my community, and they're removing everything but the waterpark part (and that'll go next).

its really sad because it was a nice alternative to cedar point we used to spend a day at sea world a day at geauga lake and a day at the outlet shopping. my first roller coaster was the double loop and my first water slide was there. i went to after prom there and my husband and i went on our first date there. i heard that they were going to move some of the rides to cedar point and they were going move the parking lot.. it will be too comericalized then. i will defiantly miss it and its a shame they should have registered it for the historic society and there are not too many roller coasters left like the big dipper. its sad enough that northeast ohio is losing poulation and jobs but now its losing a past time

Oh wow! I had no idea, I thought that was just a rumor, I liked that the RTA had a bus line going there, even though I love Cedar Point, I had some good memories at Geuaga Lake. I remember the first time I went I was in the 5th grade and all the 5th graders went at then end of the year. Then I remember having Senior night there 10 years ago. (those were the only times I'd ever gone) But still its really a blow to the economy out here. I hope they change their minds too, I mean they did before when they changed it back to Geauga Lake after that failed 6 Flags. One can only hope.....

So much history in that park. Remember when Euclid Beach closed was so sad and now this. Figured this would happen when Cedar Point bought the park. Took too many patrons away from the point and this way they can control who goes where. Just what NE Ohio needs is another water park. The only reason the water park was popular is the rest of the park gave the family members who did not like water parks something to do. The park was land bound but by getting Sea World acreage should have solved that problem. Cedar Point .. buy the competition and close them. Better get use to waiting in line for hours to ride just one ride. Only going to get worse.

Like many others, I spent my childhood at Geauga Lake. It was a twenty minute drive so we went quite often. The Big Dipper is one of the greatest coasters due to its age and ricketiness! But, like most people, I have not been to Geauga lake in years. It couldn't compete with Cedar Point and all of the record breaking coasters. Once Sea World left, it hurt Geauga Lakes business.

I think Cedar Point is the Art Modell of the Amusement Park Business. How can you let a place as nostalgic as Geauga Lake go under? A very sad day!

OMG- I agree with you all the way! I live in california now but i totally grew up going to geauga lake. I went this summer not knowing that it was gonna close. If I knew i would have done it different. But I think Cedar Fair(geauga lake's owner company) is making a big big mistake. GL might not have been bringign in enuff money but still they shouldnt close it. I think everyone was speculating that it would close soon. After they took X-flight out, it was pretty much a done deal already. But I will definitely miss GL! GOODBYE GL

Oh, my, I hadn't heard that. I left northeastern Ohio, my home all my life, until a year ago, when I moved south. I'm sad to hear that news. That park was always such a popular place to go each summer. Usually when plans are announced to close something down, they follow through. If I was you, I'd go & take lots of pictures, to fill a scrapbook. I remember my parents telling me about how upset people in northeastern Ohio were, many years ago, when Euclid Beach Park was closed. The roller coaster was either the largest in Ohio at the time or was the biggest in the world. Lots of sad people way back then.

Damn that sucks, I lived in Cleveland for 25 years growing up. Had a lot of great times there, the big wave there was awesome, the rotor where you stuck to the wall and the floor dropped. It will be a shame a smaller park like that was always a great alternative to Cedar Point where you have to get wristbands now to get into rides and still wait in big lines.

Once Sea World left...therwriting was on the wall...the park hasn't been the same. My kids like(d) it...but I grew up going to Cedar Point. I think Cedar Fair is trying to recoup some money by selling the land to private investors...for more houses. And right someone above was...the Water Park will go next!

Oh no, I can't believe it. I spent many summers there from 1985-1989 and loved every minute of it. The double loop was one of my favorite rides. I can still smell the amusement park foods in the air. I moved out of the area in 1992 and hadn't heard this news, I will truely miss the place.
