... who is now a woman to be a participant in the Miss America Pageant?

OK... My uncle says that you can have your birth certificate changed to say that you were born a woman...
And would it be possible then, for the same woman to be entered into a male competition such as Mr. Universe?

Wasn't this transgendered person really a woman to begin with? We've all heard of males in female bodies and vice versa. She probably couldn't compete at this time, but wouldn't it be interesting if she sued to set a precedent that she was really a woman from birth? It would involve not only the legal community but the medical community around the world. She's in a position to change history. I'd love to see her do it.

I don't know what the rules are for Miss America - it's possible they've never considered the possibility and don't even have a policy yet.

I suppose it could be theoretically possible for the same person to compete in both Miss America and Mr. Universe competitions. A lot of trans women try very hard to be uber-masculine before transitioning as a form of overcompensation - it's not unusual to meet trans women who football stars, marines, and heavily-bearded lumberjack types in their youth. One might compete in Mr. Universe while in such a situation, then transition, and end up in Miss America.

Probably unlikely though, since transition takes time, and the age range for those competitions seems pretty narrow. And if you were already in one competition, you'd probably be too well known to be able to enter the other competition without it being known, and I think a known trans person entering either competition would still cause flame wars from hell right now.

1 ) Try volunteering in a LGBT support program where you live. You may choose to go to a support group for transgendered and transsexual individuals and explain that you are not trans, but would like to understand, I'm sure you'll be welcomed with open arms. You may also develop friendships with trans people. 2) Honestly I think having the kahunas to admit you were wrong, apologize and change your opinion is pretty good. 3) I'm American, so I think you're out of luck there. On a side note about the original post, in my personal opinion ( I can only talk for me, not all trans folk) I don't really care what anyone thinks about me. As long as they respect me as a human being and use the proper pronouns that I feel describe me. Personally I feel male. My gender is male. I understand that my sex started out female, but It doesn't look very female anymore. I would personally describe my sex as female to male. Because that is what my body is, started out female, and hormonally and surgically altered to male. I don't feel that male or female accuratly describes my sex. But, like I said, I feel male, and I am a man. My gender identity is 100% male. So I do not think I should be considered female, or some third option. I think that the definition of male and female should not be as strict and should include people who fall into the gray, instead of saying "you don't have a sex"

Unfortunately, participants in the Miss America Pageant have to have been born female. Although, like someone said, she could probably get away with it on stealth until word got out.

If she is now legally a woman.

To compete you must -

* Be between the ages of 17 and 24.
* Be a United States citizen.
* Meet residency requirements for competing in a certain town or state.
* Meet character criteria as set forth by the Miss America Organization.
* Be in reasonably good health to meet the job requirements.
* Be able to meet the time commitment and job responsibilities as set forth by the local program in which you compete.

Some individual states - such as New Hampshire say she must be now and always have been a woman - others say nothing about the duration of her legal status as female.

I feel that they should be able to participate. Gee, I wonder what they would do when people are born with both parts, a vagina and a penis with testicles. You know that does happened. I saw it on a medical channel before. They all should have the right to participate in Miss America Pageant.

Unfortuanatly No....

The Miss America and the Miss Universe pagents require that the women be born women.

Really unfair.

If she went stealth, she may get away with it for a while. As soon as someone found out, she would be disqualified. I've not read the rules, but I've no doubt.
