I'm going to assume you mean the movie version. Okay.
The Phantom (Erik), totally pissed about the whole Christine/Raoul thing (although he understands that she has a much better life in store for her with Mr. I'm-so-rich-and-good-looking-that-Christine-will-do-much-better-with-me), escapes the mob looking for him, and we don't exactly know where he went (but he probably didn't go back to his crib in the opera house). So fast forward about 50 or 60 years, and Old-Raoul has the Phantom's toy monkey, which he bought at the auction. He visits Christine's grave (she apparently did not live to the ripe old age Raoul did-probably couldn't stand him), expecting it to be desolate, but then sees the Phantom's trademark rose with black ribbon....this leaves us guessing.
So, does that about explain it to you?

Are you asking about the musical film? If you are, Raoul leaves with Christine, and they will get married and have children.
The Phantom perhaps will desert the opera house or return when it is safe. That is left a mystery. After all, Erik has the opportunity to travel the world, as he did in the novel.
The ending suggests that the Phantom is still alive. Of course, the elderly man is Raoul.
The musical is extremely different from Gaston Leroux's Phantom of the Opera and Susan Kay's Phantom. Both novels are beloved by POTO fans.

Christine agrees to marry the phantom to save her bf's life. So, she kisses the phantom on the forehead to seal the pact. But, the phantom was so astonished that she would kiss him when even his own mother wouldn't give him a kiss, that he released Christine from her pact and let her leave with her bf. Since then, Christine and her bf have disappeared to another country and the phantom was never seen in the opera again.

Christine gives in to save Raoul's life, and decides to stay with the Phantom. She goes up to the Phantom, looks him in the eyes and kisses him. He's immediately consumed with guilt over having destroyed her life (because he loves her) so he lets her go. You don't see what happens to him after that, but he disappears.
At the end of the movie, many many years later, when Christine dies, Raoul (now her husband) finds that the phantom left a gift on her tombstone. (So apparently, he was always sort of keeping tabs on her.)

Ok, so Christine goes with that ugly dude that was her childhood friend and they get married so that dude goes to the grave and he sees the rose with a black ribbon, that means that the Phantom is still alive after all these years and still thinks of Christine and he loves her, and I wouldn't blame him after he's like "I love you" and crying and all that stuff.
I HATED THE ENDING! Ok, if you need anything else, feel free to contact me. :)

ummm. the girl goes into the dungen thingy only to find her boyfriend tied to a gate. she has two choices. either stay with the phantom and save the boyfriend or not stay with him and watch her boyfriend die. then she sings some stupid little songs, and like every other cliche movie, his heart softens, lets the boy go, and the girl and her boyfriend run off into the night. then she comes back and kissed the pukey phantom and runs off again. then they go forward like 60 years and you see the boyfriend mourning over the girl's grave. he puts the monkey toy there to remember her by. there. i think thats it

You know I am in the same place you are. I got to the end of the movie and looked at my husband and said "What??"
Well it is that type of tragic tale that you know can't end well. Other than that I am kinda stuck. Good luck, maybe someone can answer it for the both of us!
