Ok in my opinion...
1. Punk Rock will never be considered in the mainstream
2. If there's a melody and more than 3 cords it isnt Punk
3. If your on MTV and little kids love you it's also not Punk

what do you think..?

oh yea and another thing punk is a lifestyle not the way you dress or the eyeliner. Man back in the 80's they didnt where s hit like that. They were bands tees of bands they knew and loved. Not bands that are "in". Punk Rock was/is a lifestyle that does not believe in the way the government is runned and they try to show other people that. It's not "oh you don't like him so i dont like him'' bull s.hit. Punk is a way of life. And I personally think its not dead and well never die unless young punx let it!

Punk is an attitude & not solely how many chords or if there's a melody, however, it frosts my weinie to hear some poser call MCR, FOB or P!ATD punk rock!!! Bands Like The Damned, The Sex Pistols, The Ramones, The Buzzcocks & even The Dead Kennedys had the attitude & were real punks & played punk rock!!!

I'm right with you, but if you really want to know why it's because the kids (or really the role models of the kids) admire the punks and the people that sell the records use the punk menarche because it's hip to not be square now a days. I actually saw someone call Evanesence punk on this site. I almost laughed out of my chair. It's all marketing to the kids who want to be "cutting edge." Have you seen all the crazy dyed hair and the mohawks now a days. People forget that the jocks used to totally beat you up for that and you were a freak. It's so hip to be "crazy and different" now.

Honestly no offense meant sxe, but you could start by not using that internet shorthand crap. A real punk is an intellectual to a degree.

Punk died in the 80s, man, any new bands--including the ones I listen to--are not and never will be punk. Maybe post-punk, or just plain rock. Punk. Is. Over. The cause is gone, some posers just like the style of dress...*cough Avril *cough*.

The media slaps labels in general. MCR is not punk rock...it's just that people slapped them with the emo label...most emo labels consist of pop punk bands...the word punk comes in pop.

i think the "newest" band i'll call punk is the offspring, and they were mid 90s... so that's sayin something... though the offspring do have a bit of a unique kind of punk sound... if you listen to their first album, total punk to the core... buuut after that, they started doin their own kind of stuff, but still, mcr and fob and that piece of crap band panic at the disco are gaaaaaaaay...

It's cause they don't know what punk is. Hell, I heard some girl say MCR is Progressive rock. I mean what the heck?
And those kids who claim to love punk haven't even heard of like the Dead Kennedys

it's because they don't have a ******** clue what punk is. they need to pick up "germicide" by the germs (the most punk rock album ever) or a black flag or dead kennedys record and rethink their s.hit.
