I suggest you contact your local Gay Community Center. If you can't find one near you, then contact one online. They can provide you with information on physicians all over the nation who can assist you. PLEASE, do not be afraid to "google" for information. You will need to see an endocrinologist and a urologist. You may need to have a psychiatric evaluation. (This protects the physician from malpractice claims in the future for helping you.) I wish you the very best!

I am not sure where you start but I know someone who is making that journey. I only have recently become friendly, at work, with someone who is transgendered. I am not someone she knew prior and didn't share her change with me, and have no idea if she knows of my knowledge. However, should she indulge that she was a man and made that difficult and socially devastating decision to seek her true self I would be supportive.

I only wish the best for my new friend and hope she can divest herself from the past and move on. I do think you can look on the Internet for trans gender organizations and find others who understand your feelings.

I can't imagine this is not easy for you but hope you know that there are many people are out there who will understand and not turn away from you.

I have heard that, prior to the surgery (or several surgeries, actually), you have to go into therapy to learn all the reasons why you want to do this, and to make sure it really is what you want. Also, you have to actually live your life as a woman for awhile, just to find out if you really can do it and be happy. It is a VERY drastic decision not to be taken lightly--you can't undo it!

Anyway, I looked up some links for you. The last one gives warnings about the risks, both mental and physical, of sex-change surgery, which you should definitely read before making a decision. If you go to www.Google.com and look up "transgender surgery" or "transsexual surgery," you can find more information. Good luck!

My nephew did this. He went to Thailand. It's very cheap there. Americans are considered to be rich, so you have to be careful. He or she, rented a motel room for $3.50 cents a day, a cabin on the beach for $15. a day. Meals are very cheap, and so is anything else you want to buy. "she's" there now getting dental work done. The country is beautiful. Buy you have to remember that if there are complications later, your ins. will not pay for it. If you can afford to be off work for a couple of months, and don't worry about complications, then this is the place to go.

Denver, CO. The reason is that Denver is the sex change capital of the world. There are more people going in as one gender and coming out as the other gender. So I'd look for info there first. You can also use the search engine to find info.

Well, first things first.
Transgender is not a verb. One does not transgender.
Transgender is a noun, and transgendered is an adjective.

The word transgender covers all non-sex-conforming behavior from transvestism to transsexualism and even intersex.

The way you word your question, I tend to assume that you are talking about male to female transsexualism, one who was born biologically male but identifies as female.

I would consider visiting a therapist who has experience in that area. Unless you wish to circumvent the system, you will need a reference from such a therapist to receive hormone therapy and surgery.

You can also visit this web site: www.ifge.org
They have some good information.

Transitioning isn't your only option. Consider all other options first.

I made a site for transgendered people who don't change their bodies:

Why would any man want to be a girl? I mean they get it pretty rough in this world. Even if your small it is better to be a man than a girl.
