I don't fear death and I do my own taxes. Were you thinking of anything else specifically?

The fear is of the unknown. How many people do you hear say "if" I die. Not "when" I die.

Humans admit the inevitable end of death intellectually, but on some level all of us feel we may be immune to it and fear that we are not.

Because it is the unknown. The fear of human attributes such as pain, emotional separation...etc...If we would know that the inevitable would be a smooth transition, no one would be scared.

Fear motivates me to maximize the delay of bad inevitables.

We're all going to die. Doesn't mean you shouldn't quit smoking.

Because we know we can't stop it. So we become afraid of it in spite of the inability to stop it.
