True, and has been irrelevant since around 1991.

Unfortunately, lovnrckts is absolutely correct (Not unfortunate that he is correct but on the fact that MTV is a useless source of any half-assed important miniscule of information.) Apparently it is somewhat relevant somewhere in today's culture because when they bother to show music (I could argue against the point that it's music as well), it tends to come from those albums that seem to be up on the charts. I admit I used to watch it, especially during the Kevin Seal years of 120 Minutes and the Fab Five Freddy years of Yo! MTV Raps (although I do catch Pimp My Ride here and there now for sh!ts and giggles) but Jello was right : "You've turned rock and roll rebellion / Into Pat Boone sedation/ Making sure nothing's left of the imagination." MTV get off the air - NOW!

I'm voting for true, but the way the charts look it would appear "more relevant that ever." I don't get it, but it seems like the TRL crap is winning.

I think the people voting for "true" are too idealistic. Corporations are, as Mos Def put it are certainly "running this rap s*it" but also the pop s*it and the rock s*it. It's the same as government people inherently want to be told what to do and in this case what to like, MTV via Viacom make life easier. Really sad system, but in a business model sense brilliant. People want to be told what records to buy and MTV does that for them. Thus because of it's early credibility MTV will always be relevant (until they become a reality tv channel). Don't be fooled by the fact that you're right and a fan of actual music, MTV will always be the root of the pulse until they screw it up far more than they already have.

dude, lovenrckts, you are the king. I swear sometimes that you're in my brain. Unfortunately I failed my saving throw vs. MTV, but I'll recover in a couple hours.
Cheers buddy.

False. Only because as much as it sucks, technically it isn't dead. I can only wish it were dead. Rather it's like a mutant zombie that's looking to eat human flesh, or perhaps just suck I.Q. points off an unsuspecting victim. That is how bad MTV has become. It is completely irrelevant as far as being an actual source for any kind of music other than Top 40 drivel and reality shows.

MTV has been crap for years!!! I'm old enough to remember when they played videos, were about music & not the lame programming they have now....even VH1 were good but they fell in to the rut of medocrity just like MTV!!! If the viewers today could see what MTV used to be like, they'd dump the crap & want the music back....the M in MTV was short for music!!!

The moment reality shows came, MTV is dead...in fact, TRL is much weaker than you think...viewers are down...thus down went the VMAs. No one takes the networks seriously. My hometown active rock station DJs literally denouces the station itself for not playing enough music.

MTV is done. Youtube is here...have fun with the videos!

For me true. I stopped watching MTV when they stopped playing the music I like, or any music for that matter, and started being political.
