Because society has an unwritten code that basically states that anything [different] is bad and shouldn't be done....
I say screw them...

Cross dressing is only frowned upon if men do it.
Women "cross dress" and get away with it all the time.
Double standards or what?

Because people are so obsessed with labeling people - they get confused if they have any difficulty identifying if someone is male or female, and since people in general don't like the feeling of confusion, they label it as "bad"
I've worn a dress in public (so that I could go on a hen night!) and a lot of peoples reactions really brought home to me that they thought males should always look male! Still, I did get some female numbers out of it (I guess they liked the idea that I was comfortable with my own identity and was brave enough to stand out from the crowd!)

If you want cross dress just you go ahead you are not doing any harm.
If it upsets anyone that is their problen not yours do your own thing and be happy.
There are too many people with nothing else to do except stick their nose into other people's business.
Just do what makes you happy. Good Luck.

There are many reasons - I suppose a major one being that society doesn't see it as the norm and has real difficulties in adapting to change.

Because society defines the roles one should play based upon their sex. Society also defines the roles as completely separate from eachother, even though they are supposed to be complimentary.
Quite frankly, I think society is full of crap.
