On a topographic map a scale of 1:80,000 means that for every unit on the map there are 80,000 units on the earth. It doesn't matter what the units are, its simply a ratio. If you are using metric every cm on the map represents 0.8 km on earth.

So the math is simple: 3 km / 80,000 * 100,000 to convert from km to cm will give you the answer. 3 km on earth would be represented by 3.75 cm on the map.

Errrr...forgive me, yet i think of, quite- on the map scale of a million:80,000, a million cm on the map represents 80,000 cm "on the floor", because it have been. At a hundred cm in line with meter, that's 800 meters, dazzling? Or 0.8 km. Iterating: a million cm map = 0.8 km quite. consequently, 2 factors 3 kilometers aside might seem as 3.seventy 5 cm aside on the topographic map? dazzling? Did I omit something?
