It depends...athletes typically will have a lower resting heart rate. If you're concerned or if he is experiencing any problems go see a doctor. The medical term is bradycardia if you want to go look it up.

I will wager your son is an athlete too. If he has no symptoms associated with low heart rate, like shortness of breath at rest or chest pain, then he likely has nothing to worry about, many fine athletes have a low heart rate.

Probably not, if he is a healthy 19 yo and fairly physically active that is ok. People who run or are in very good shape tend to have a lower heart rate.

For adults a heart rate of 60-100 is normal.
Under 60 sometimes just means your son
is in great physical shape.

You should have him checked by a cardiologist. He may need a pacemaker.
