Theres no way of knowing. I was mostly effaced and 1cm and fully engaged (baby was low and stationed for delivery) from 36 weeks clear through the first 37 1/2 hours of labor at full term. I didnt change until my 38th hour, and then I flew from 1 cm to 10 and pushed for 6 hours.

Theres no way of knowing at all when you're going to have your baby. Just stay active.

I was 2cm and completely effaced at 39 weeks and still had to be induced. (that was with my son now 9m) and with my daughter my waters broke at home and by the time I got to hospital I was 5cm and completely effaced. Effacement is how thin the cervix is,and dilation is how much there before it has pulled to the sides of the birth canal so you can push your baby out. So 1cm dilated and 50% effaced means your cervix has thinned out halfway and your cervix is open by 1cm. This is gross but your cervix looks like a big pair of pouty lips pressed together and they need to thin and open to let the baby out.

Lots of Sex is what my doctor said, with my first child i drank castor oil and it started my labor and i did all natural but it was a long labor and i had to be put on pitocin, lots of people say the baby will come when its ready and nothing really works, its great you are dilated to a 1 and are 60% effaced and this is your first baby so thats awesome and if you have to be induced i think it will go pretty fast for you, best of luck 38 weeks pregnant with baby #2

honestly it is really hard to say. Each pregnancy can be unpredicatable but the first you really just don't know. My mom was 1 cm for 4 wks then all of a sudden when her water broke she dialated fast and had me 1 hr after her water broke. My I was 3 cm dialated and 80% effaced for 4 wks then I started dialating and got to 7 so they broke my water and I delivered 1 hr later. My best friend was 1 cm for about 4 wks, then went to 3 cm and when she was 42 wks she finally went into labor and her water broke at the hospital and she was in active labor for about 18 hrs after that.

Anything could happen! Everytime I went to the doctor, I was only 1 or 11/2 cm dialated and about 70% effaced, but my water still broke! When I got to the hospital after my water broke, I was only 2-3 cm, so it can still happen even if you haven't dialated much! Did your doc strip your membranes? Because I'm fairly certain that helped me! Good luck!

Well is going yo be your first baby so it will take longer for you get to the near 10cm, so just be ready night or day in case your water bag brakes. This can take up to four day to give birth when only being 1cm dilated. Good luck!!! and congrats.
