I love Henry! And it's not too "old-fashioned" at all! In fact, it's currently one of the hottest such revivals for boys -- just making it back into the top 100 last year. ;)
Of course, it doesn't hurt that it happens to be a perfect brother name for sisters such as Ava (to use your girl name LOL), Madeline, Ella and all the rest. ;) A great name all around, and definitely on the rise. For what it's worth, however, even if its current climb continues, the special connection you have to the name will keep it from seeming a trendy choice. LOVE that it's for your great-grandmother! Hope that helps!
Ps. Not sure why anyone would randomly call him "Hank," per the above comment. It IS a common nickname for Henry, but so are Hal, Harry, Henny and Rico, among others. Plenty of options there. ;)

I love the name Ava, Ruth is very old fashioned. I wanted to use an older family name for my kids' middle names, but it' hard because I don't like any of them. I'm TTC and have picked out names. My great grandfather was Alexander, so if I have a boy his name will be Dawson Alexander. If I have a girl Lacey Alexandra. I don't care for Henry, but if that's what you guys like, then it's okay.

Not at all! When you consider some of the goofy names parents are thrusting upon their offspring, giving a child a normal name can almost be considered the "New Cool" thing to do!! You're ahead of the fashion curve on this one!!:)
If you're happy and your poor child doesn't have to walk through live being tortured for having a name like Moonbeam Flower-Boy or something equally excreble, I'd say everyone wins here!! Good Luck!

No,Henry is not old-fashioned at all. I think it's a great name,a strong name, and it's wonderful that you want to honor your great grandmother by naming your son after her.
Did you know that we "become" our names(over a period of time,of course.)What I mean,is that our names (most of them anyway)have meanings, and we take on those meanings in a psychological way, usually without our knowledge.

I love the name Henry, but it is pretty popular right now. It's #95 on the social security top names listing. You may not care, but it's a little too common for my taste.
Henry was also my grandfather's name. The other one was Elmer..... I always liked it!

It's just personal opinion but to me, Henry is an old fashioned name. Get used to saying it over and over and over and over...."No Henry!", "Come here Henry", "Don't put that in your mouth, Henry", "This is my son, Henry."
Ultimately, it's your decision.....And not to burst your bubble, but the chances of having a girl far outweigh those of having a boy, so you may not even have to worry about it!
Ava is a lovely name.
