tara elaine-pcos is caused by insulin resistance, which can be treated with metformin. Metformin helps your body process insulin. I took clomid for about 2 months, but my insurance wouldn't pay, and my husband hasnt had any tests done yet, so i didnt want to just be throwing away $50 a month for nothing. mominohio- i only weighed 120 when i first got married and nothing happened. since then i've gained weight, but not really anything major.

If you find out let me know my sister found out she has PCOS when she was 16. She cried for days cause they told her it was almost no chance of getting pregnant in the future. She is 18 now with everyone in the family poping kids like crazy it's upseting her. How does this Metformin work I was told it was risky to take.

I to have pcos, Metformin I just start taking this cycle (Aug 31), It help my period so far, mostly my period last 7-9 days but it was only on for 5 days because of the met, I am 19 years old it is good to take metformin because it helps with the Insulin Re, it'll help you ovulate, but like for some woman it'll help and some it wouldn't, taking it with clomid I've heard has been real good, I did 3 rounds of clomid 50mg with out any success, now I am on clomid 100mg (3-7) and metformin 500mg twice a day, I was thinking the younger you are the easier it'll be for you to get pregnant with pcos and fertility drugs but its not, every woman is different, if metformin isn't working alone for you try asking for some clomid so that ovulation can occur, I'll keep you posted if this month the pills pull the trigger

i just asked a similar question about clomid. i took metformin and so far no luck. then i did some additional reading this week and found that metformin alone only helps a very small percentage of women with pcos get pregnant. so i'm going to try clomid which has a higher success rate.

did you ovulate on clomid? if not then taking metformin or a low dose of dexamethasone might help you ovulate or provide a "stronger ovulation". i'm also thin about 128lb and 5'5". my husband hasn't had his sperm checked either which is why i didn't start clomid. but now i'm hoping to try clomid for a few rounds and if nothing then have him checked. also my periods are irregular like 40 - 70 days a part, but i do chart my temps and know that i ovulate just not veyr often. what about you?

The only thing, and i really mean the only thing that helped me win my battle against infertility brought on by PCOS was to stop eating breads and pastas, cut back on sweets and cereals. I lost about 40-50 lbs and got pregnant shortly after. I now have 2 boys (2 and 5). The Dr wouldn't give me metformin but I have a cousin that is on it for PCOS and she has been on it for 5 years now with no luck but she also still eats carbs which is a big deal when you have PCO/PCOS. The less carbs you eat the better you should feel and more control you can usually gain over your cycles and your body. I gain weight fast with carbs, lose it fast by cutting out some carbs and when i eat to many carbs my period is late until i back off the carbs.
