Wuthering Heights, by Emily Bronte.

I can't really explain why I love it so much. I'm a little bit obsessed with it.

I think that there's just been nothing else like it ever written. (Unless they were copying it.) Even in this day and age, it has a remarkable maturity to it. It a book where the "hero" and "heroine" are not very likable people. (Something that would have been unheard of in Bronte's time.) They are deeper and more complex than any other characters that you find in any book...even by today's standards. The story is so rich with details and feeling, that you almost forget that it's fiction, and that these are fictional characters. I've read the book approximately once a year since I was twelve years old, (that would be over 20 times now, lol) and I still find something new in it every time I read it. It's just brilliant.

The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith. Both books tell a story of overcoming hardship ,the first from an adults perspective and the second from a young girls eyes. They both give the reader a glimpse of the past. It is interesting to compare the mothers in both these books.

"Eyes of War"
If any of you have heard of this book, then.. wow. I love it partially because its plot in intensely developed with more characters than I could every imagine trying to keep on task. There is one section of the book where it goes through seven chapters, full length chapters mind you, each centered around a completely different character, each in their own separate setting. So yes, it can become quite confusing to remember where everyone is and how the timing of events fall out when corresponding to the time of another event. However, this book is incredibly fast paced, though the author, Janna Nickerson, manages to sacrifice no detail in the speed of the development. I just find that to be truly amazing.

Another reason I love this book is because it is self-published by Janna Nickerson and her family at the time when she was only just out of high school. I think it's still a self published series and not yet taken up by a publisher, though I know at one point she was looking for one. So, I view her as a role model who knew what she wanted when she was still in high school, and went farther than I could dream to reach her goals. And hence, that's my favorite book.

I've read Walk Two Moons, excellent book! But my favorite is My Louisiana Sky by Kimberly Willis Holt. It's a very different perspective and it talks about a family that's different from the norm. Even though it's a children's book, I highly recommend it. You can just learn a lot from it, it's amazing, it will change your point of view.

#1 The Fountainhead
#2 Atlas Shrugged
#3 Les Misarables

All these books have hero characters in them who go and do great things. All of these books are very motivating. I see how great people can be by reading how these fictional characters act. I hope people like these exist outside of fiction.

These are all kinda young but you did say favorite not most advanced.

"East" by Edith Pattou is pretty good.

So is "Inkheart" by Cornelia Funk.

But my all time favorite is the Young Wizards Series by Diane Duane...this is sooo much better than Harry Potter, though that's an okay series too.

However, my favorite author has got to be Tamora Pierce!
