Not when used per the instructions. They are tested and listed to be safe. Look for the UL label. Don't cover them with paper or other flammable things.

Highly unlikely...........Lava lamps use a simple 40 watt appliance light-bulb for the "heat" source. If the bulb burns out, nothing happens. The "Lava" part of the lamp is a sealed unit in itself and the liquid inside is just colored water, with a oil base material inside that bubbles up harmlessly at low temperature. The lamps do give off some heat and can be hot to the touch but as long as the glass of the lamp doesn't come in direct contact with something flammable, there is almost no chance of the lamp causing a fire..,The only other concern that could result in a fire is if the whole lamp was knocked off of whatever it is displayed on by a Cat or household pet of some kind. Like any other lamp, it shouldn't be left on if you are not in the room..especially if you have pets............

Yes lava lamps can cause fires. If you leave it alone touching highly flammible material (paper, etc) for more then 48 hours it may be hot enough to start a fire. If you make sure you position the lamp so the sides (especially the glass part and any metal) are not touching anything and you dont leave it on for longer then a day you will be fine.

I have one that is 27" tall and it is the 50th anniversary lamp. But it really gets hot! I m not scared of cat knocking it over because it is heavy but am afraid that the grandkids(one is 3) others are older will touch it and get burned. Does anyone know if this has ever happened?

They do get very warm, almost hot, to the touch, so if they were near something flammable, even like a wispy fabric they might catch it on fire.

All lamps can cause a fire. Just use common sense.
