You call it 'Checks and Balances'
I call it 'Childish Bickering'
(At the moment the US is not being 'governed'.)

Without conservatives - it would've collapsed into anarchy and/or some form of communism long ago.

Without liberals - where does one start? There would be no poor or homeless people as they wouldn't be stuck in their state of dependency through social welfare programs. Gas would cost $1/gallon because we would've drilled and developed oil deposits in Alaska, along the coasts, and throughout the country (while preserving the surrounding environment in a responsible manner), Christianity would not be stigmatized, our children would be taught to learn the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, and media bias would not be denied.

...for starters.

Had this been a question of Republicans vs. Democrats, my answer would've been different as neither denote conservatism/liberalism.

But the conservative vs. liberal debate is akin to good vs. evil. Liberalism is a destructive way of thinking and has not brought about one positive change in human history - and don't give me "the civil rights movement". That was not conservatism vs. liberalism. That was fear vs. common sense.

When good compromises with evil, evil always wins because good cannot be compromised and still be called good.

Look at new legislation from 2001-2006 and you will have your answer.
The Republicans owned the Presidency and the House and Senate.

We need the checks and balances.

We might provide the rest of the world with a more consistent face. Our flailing from left to right must be very difficult for other countries to work with, diplomatically and cooperatively.
"Are you the good USA or the evil USA?"

I'm just afraid of what kind of face the US would have to have for us all to be consistent behind it.

eh... liberals would have it looking much like Europe... high taxes, but fairly high standard of living... legal weed

conservatives... I'm not sure... probably be involved in more wars... probably be a military industrial complex with fewer freedoms in exchange for security... just guessing... like the USSR with a state religion and a bit more money...
