The tower shooter? Yes, I remember when it happened.

Yes, I remember that. They did a fairly good movie about it called "the Deadly Tower" with Kurt Russell.

One of the scariest parts about it was that the police were outgunned by the hunters who turned up to try and take the guy down. A sort of a pre-cursor to the shoot-out in LA a few years ago, except in that instance the automatic weapons were turned on the police.

He's also listed in the Senior Drill Instructor's speech at the rifle range in Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket.

He supposedly left a note asking them to do an autopsy on him after he was dead. They did so, and found he had a brain tumor.

He was a man who took up position in the bell tower of the University of Texas' campus in Austin Texas and used it to gun down people at a great distance from the tower. As police worked their way upwards toward his position he took his own life with his weapon.
