Hey guys, I just wanted to see what you guys think of this new engine I got. I'm fairly new to the whole engine stuff but heres all the specs we have on it so far.

350 CID, Small Block Chevy

COMP CAMS, Xtreme 4X4 Hydraulic Performance Cam and Lifter Kit

72 CC heads with some porting and polishing with racing valve springs and retainers for the cam

Speed Pro Forged 12 to 1 (with 64 cc heads) compression dome pistons with Speed Pro rings

This engine has about 10.5 to 1 compression with the 72 cc heads (more streetable)

'89 and later style one piece rear main seal block with two piece rear main seal adapter for use of early style crank

Weiand Stealth intake manifold- Horsepower from idle to 6,800 rpm

Cloyes double roller timing chain

Resized rods

Engine is internally balanced with the flexplate and lightweight harmonic balancer that are on it.

Thanks guys!

The only reason I'm posting this is to ask the Pros, or people who know there engines if it nice. we already have it in my 74' Blazer and it runs fine. I would like to also add that we got a 600 CFM(not sure if thats right) EdleBrock 4 barrel carb for it. Its an Offroad engine for a 4x4 truck. Like i said, I just want to see if it's a nice engine or just a little better then a stock 350.
Thanks again guys!

You need to check your actual compression ratio if you are using 12:1 compression pop-up or dome pistons and they make 12:1 with 64cc heads then they will be making 11:25:1 with 72cc heads if you calculate bore and stroke as stock 4in bore and 5.7 stroke and since you did not mention any change in cranks then I will assume it is stock? I use a weiand stealth intake on my 478CID big block Ford and have no complaints but it is a dual plane intake and is intended for low end and mid range acceleration so the 600 cfm carb is plenty on small blocks that rarely see 6000 rpm or more 600 to 650 cfm is about all they can realistically handle, you left out a lot of info but from what you have included it should make good power and be serviceable for a long time with proper maintenance.

Someone sold you a brochure. "Comp cams" means nothing. What's the grind? Overlap? Duration? What kind of comp is it for? Drag racing? Rally? Endurance? The cam profiles used in different types of competition are vastly different.

"Weiand Stealth intake manifold- Horsepower from idle to 6,800 rpm" - how can they say this without knowing all about the rest of your engine? Because all Chev 350s have horsepower in that range - it just doesn't say how much (could be 50hp for all they know.)

I could go on...just understand that it isn't what goes into the engine that matters, its how they work together (or maybe DO they work together?) Personally, I always go with a factory setup (factory race, factory rally, etc.) They'll list all the parts you'll need. That way, you know that it all works together - and they can't blame another manufacturer if something goes wrong. And, since they raced with these parts (with the company name and reputation on the line), you can be sure that it's more reliable than aftermarket.

Good luck!

That's pretty high compression for pump gas. Probably OK if the heads are aluminum. If Iron you may need 100 octane gas. You didn't specify which Xtreme 4x4 cam you have. It sounds like a good combination. Get a 750 cfm carb and adjust initial timing to keep it from detonation.

don't worry about what the other person said about the cam, they don't know who COMP CAMS really is.. a good cam, probably a off road torque cam.. what do you do with your truck/engine? if you off road with it decide for yourself if it has good pull for all the grunting you need to do what you require.. I would not rev it hard as you do not need to, and if you wanted to make it run with more torque there are intakes that will do that.. a stealth is for street driving, and over all performance. have fun and be careful with that rock eater..

and your valve springs are fine, you are not running 7000 rpm..

I have a Edelbrock 650 cc Carb on my 355 and does fine with it. Ran a best 12.6 so far. Unless your turning over 6500 rpm that carb should be fine for you.

Sounds like a pretty nice motor to me. I would loose the edlebroke carb though. I have a similar flat top motor in one of my cars and it runs 12 0's the quarter!
