Has anyone ever traded stocks? I'm a college student, I want to make money but don't really want to work for almost nothing. I've applied for some jobs and am waiting to hear from them. Have you bought and sold the same day? If so, how well have you done? Around how much did you make? Is it riskier than trading over a period of time? Is it worth it? How can I get started? How much money is needed to start with?

That's not investing, its just reckless gambling. Take it to Vegas and put it on red.

You have as good a chance with commodities futures.

I trade stocks all of the time, and I was a stock broker for 12 years so I have a good background in the stock market. actual day trading is very hard, but it can be a good way to make money. you really need to know what you are doing because chances are you will lose most if not all of your money while you are learning. a good way to learn about investing is to go to top10traders.com it is a free website where they give you 100k of pretend money. go on there and do some trading and see how you do. mostly what you will find out is how hard the stock market can be. if you have less than 25k in a stock account you are limited to no more than 3 day trades for every 5 business days. so that can put a clamp on what you are trying to do. I would recommend watching cnbc as much as possible and read as many investing books as you can before even trying to trade stocks. but the stock market is one of the most interesting things in the world and you will be totally addicted to it once you get started. good luck

You should have at least 1 yr doing hypothetical trades (use a yahoo portfolio)
And need about $10K to start in a brokerage account .

Day trading is the same as Vegas , bring cash .
And would you play $10K at poker the first week you learned the game ?

Without a year of solid homework , you will bust in less than a week .
