this might sound stupid...I have always bought money orders for things...but I never cashed one. How do I go about cashing one? Will the bank accept it? will they ask for my ID if my husband deposit it into a joint account? will the post office cash since people buy them there?

If it's a postal money order, the post office will cash it. You can deposit money orders in your bank account or cash them at your bank. You will need ID to cash it.

Well this might sound stupid too but where did the money order come from? The bad thing about money orders is that they are easy to duplicate, counterfeit so banks and businesses are suspicious of these checks. If you know where the money order came from have your husband sign in and deposit into your account but dont be surprise if they want to call and verify that its real or even place a hold on the check until it clears another thing you might be interested in is Internet banking or bill paying account ask about it at your bank it is a very effective tool for busy people and you would not have to buy a money order again.
