Meteor like the one that hit in South American come in so fast it would be virtually impossible to give out any warnings. They are small enough they can really never be tracked, and if they were detected, it would be way too late anyway. Fortunately most of them either never reach the ground, or hit in sparsely populated area....well except for that one that broke up over Chicago a while back and it went through some roofs and several fragments were recovered.

I don't think that much of anything has been proven at this point. Let's let them drain the water and see what's cooking. There are lists of NEO's any many other "bodies" that haven't even been found. How glad are you that Bush cut NASA's budget? The earth gets hit far more frequently than you realize. And things are often found as they "fly" by. . .Scary, isn't it? Did you ever see the email of the guy with the hole in the trunk of his car. Yup. Another hit. And then the picture of the hole in the ceiling of this ladies house. Yup, another one. I saw the one that is dubbed the Daylight Fireball of August something or other, maybe 1985. Don't remember exactly at this moment but you can read the account if you look up Gary Cronk and Daylight Fireball. I was standing at Old Faithful as this meteor flew by-a ball of fire- and then back out into the atmosphere. I wasn't afraid, I was to busy gawking with my mouth open and it was over so fast. That's as close as I ever want to be. And look up what's going to happen in 2012 when a big one is scheduled to pass between earth and the moon. Maybe that will increase the budget again. . .what warning system is to be used. . .what effect will that have. . .

Eh, I don't know, really. They predict one in 2012, i think, but they may have find a way to move it away a few miles from Earth if one usch meteor does want to come and turn Earth into the smaller version of the sun.
