I now believe in a socialized health care system based on two cases. Friend #1 worked for 32 years. Payed for medical insurance she never used. Has cancer, lost her job of 17 years and can't afford Cobra. Friend #2 changed jobs after 10 years. New insurance won't accept a preexisting condition, Now must get group insurance that cost 3 times the amount. Total cost for family equals 2/3 of pay check.
How many other hard working people are suffering like this. I am not going to wait for a tragedy like this to happen to my family. I am pushing for health reform that helps all. Are you?

I know you are all right. You share the belief I have had for years. It is so hard to watch hard working people suffer and discriminated against because of illness. Reform needs to happen in some way, that is for sure. Thank you for your replies.

there are no easy ways to accomplish this. and by easy i also mean cheap. unfortunately. without regulation, who could you trust? health care would be like auto care.
the reason that people might come to this country for health care is the regulation that we already have. that is why the quality is so good. if that is expensive, then maybe that is the way life is. how would society be without police. here's an even better example, what are we doing in iraq? regulating their country to protect them. hmmm.....

I have a long list of Fiascoes, Snafus, and Ripoffs by what health care I have had, and like many Cobra that was more than all other expenses combined till I could no longer afford any health care.
A dear friend dead of bone cancer that was deliberately passed off as arthritis, even though she was in remission from breast cancer.
Repeated trials of meds that everyone knew would not work, to prove I needed the more expensive meds, only to have the employer change plans and have to do the same thing all over again.
And then there is the countries that do have Socialized Medicine, all better than the US and the ones that do not have Neocons in the government better than those that do.
Unsocialized Medicine is like unsocialized people or dogs, difficult and always leaving messes for others to clean up

I have changed my mind about health care. I like Hillary's plan so that we could keep our present coverage. I think that everyone in this country should have health insurance. I have shopped around for a plan that doesn't cost as much as my present coverage. I haven't been able to find anything. I feel sorry for people who can't afford it. I ask myself what would happen to me if I didn't have health insurance and it would be humbling.

I agree with you - basic medical care isn't affordable if you don't have insurance. The Canada MP's case was advanced breast cancer and most of her treatment was in Canada.
Everyone is entitled to basic healthcare like annual exams, diagnostic procedures, cancer treatment in the early stages. I too have friends who let illnesses become serious because they don't have enough money for xrays or tests early on.
Also, the Canadian MP would have more privacy from Canadian press in California.

I am with Hillary 100% her speech was magnificent and she exposed all that is wrong with health care.
She is not going to make it socialized she is just not going to let them get away with what they have been doing.
She is the greatest person alive.
Bill Spargur worked as a semi driver for Roadway Express and had all the insurance health, prescription, life and when he became to ill to work they were allowed to drop him forcing him to switch doctors after a 5 year search for a doctor that finally diagnosed him. Cobra was more than half his income and only covered hospitalization not the 19 prescriptions he was put on.
Her research into the problem as well as Michale More exposed them and she said if we unite which I have been trying to but since these problems no one wants to know me any more as a widow with a disabled child.
Please Join me and Hillary.

If national health care is so good then why is the President of Canada coming here for his cancer treatment?I saw this on www.drudgereport.com this week.Ever hear of a Health Savings Account? It's kinda new. It's like a savings account instead of insurrance.I am a self pay person since i am part time and my hubby is self employed. If we were to get family ins. it will cost $800 a month so we just pay out of pocket and it's actually cheaper that way.The insurance is a ripoff and the dr's are too because they charge more to the ins. comps. But national health care is not the answer.it just steals money from those who make $$ and give it to those who don't or won"t.Then the health care gets bad and there is along wait to even see a dr.Do more research.Ever been to the waiting room at the ER?It takes forever. If you get cancer or need surgery in Canada it could be months or even years to be treated.

Absolutely not.
Socialized health care does not "work", either.
It inevitably devolves into a two-tiered system in which those with $ pay for better/speedier care.
Although 100% privitized system is not optimal, swinging the other way would be both a huge blow to capitalism (a philosophy on which our country is based), but would also devolve into a system similar to what we have now (i.e., poor, disabled and elderly recieve subsidized care).
The current move towards HSAs (i.e., pre-tax health savings accounts) is a step in the right direction.

Health care reform, yes. Socialized medicine, no.
There needs to be more protection against baseless lawsuits, and more competition (and less regulation) to help lower the cost to the public.
