I think this whole situation is unfortunate. I'm still learning about this story but the bits and pieces I do know really disturb me. I don't think it was right that the white kid(s) hung a noose in the tree and he should've been punished for that. But what can you expect living in a small town in the south? There are still a lot of areas in the south that still have racism. I don't think it was right that the black kids beat up the white kid because violence is never the answer. But what can you do after being called a racial name over and over? People can take but so much abuse. I have been in situations where I've gotten so mad that I wanted to hurt a person physically but I never did. I'm not a violent person.

I just think that it's funny how this kid was so called beaten up so bad and still attended a social function that same night. I agree that the kids should be punished for beating up the other kid but they shouldn't get such a harsh sentence. But I've heard that they may get a lower sentence..I'm not sure. Like I said I'm still learning about this issue. I just hope everything works out the way that it should.

Personally, I think the situation should had been handle better in the beginning. This situation shouldn't have gotten to this level in the first place if you read the entire case not just bits and pieces of it. The parents and adults involved should have handle it and done something. But I' am tried of everyone focusing on the race angle, it is not about race it is about being treated fairly in the justice system. Yes, what they did was wrong nobody is making excuses but nobody wouldn't want their kid to send that much time in prison over a crime that doesn't fit the punishment.

I think the whole situation is wrong. I think it does have to do with racism and I think that those kids are being treated unfairly. Kids white no matter what color they are and no one was seriously injured. Every ones trying to down play that its racism but those kids hung nooses on a tree b/c black kids wanted to sit under it. If thats not racism I dont know what is.

I think that expressing ones view non-violently is different than expressing it violently and each of the students involved should be punished accoridng to their participation (that includes the white kids). I am tired of hearing about this, just becuase these kids made it about race when they decided to do those actions, does NOT mean WE have to make this about race.

Thats my opinion.

It's a bunch of crap! Would all these people be protesting if it were white kids who beat up a black kid? Or would they be saying they get what they deserve?

I'm not racist, I just get tired of it!

It shows the prevalence of racial discrimination in this country and it's completely unfair.
