There are several drinks I can think of off the top of my head that neither smell nor taste like alcohol. If someone flat-out lied to you, "Oh, it's just punch," then I suppose that'd be true. It would also be a crime, by the way, and if that person were harmed by it, (got sick or got into an accident) the liar would be facing jail time. (That happened here once. Sorority sisters lied to a pledge, who's religion forbade drinking. When she passed out, they left her alone in a room, and she was raped. They never found who raped her, but the sisters got suspended sentences and probation.)
Most people use the phrase in a tongue-in-cheek manor. "My friends took me out last weekend and got me drunk," or, "My husband brought home a bottle of wine last night to get me drunk." What they really mean is that an atmosphere was formed that made them relax, enjoy themselves, and drink more than they normally would.
However, a few losers will invoke that phrase as an excuse to not take responsibility for their poor behavior. If someone tries to do that with you, call them on it. Point out that if they actually feel they have no control over their drinking, they shouldn't ever take a drink. And if they do it, they own it, even the consequences.

Well, I think that someone could spike your drink and put something in that could make you seem drunk; (date rape drug, for instance). I have heard that there are odorless, colorless powders that can be put in a drink and can make someone disoriented, and even become unconscious. That is probably not what you are talking about, though. I think that when it comes to drinking alcohol, someone can persuade you to drink more drinks than you should have but, it is your decision that gets you to the point of becoming intoxicated. You can't blame anyone but yourself for that, though you can say the words and make yourself look foolish.

Some people are not sensative to the taste and smell of alcohol. Given a mixed drink they can't tell it contains alcohol if no one tells them. Usually these are people who don't normally drink. Therefore it takes very little alcohol for the person to get drunk.

Other people don't get you drunk, you get yourself drunk. Often it's an excuse for what they did after they chose to pour alcohol down their throat.

It depends on who's plate or cup it is. If it's a dog's plate or cup (lol they don't drink from cups) then..HELL NO! But yeah if it's like a good friend's or boyfriend then yeah sure why not?

Getting drunk is a choice. Like smoking or killing. It's all about a choice.

The only way I can think of is lying about the contents of a beverage. "Here, try some fruit punch" on an inexperienced person.

I've never had any trouble cajoling someone into drinking more than they intended. You just kind of prod them along. It also helps if you're treating.
