Snakes, in general, aren't cheap. There is the cost of a snake, a good cage, heating supplies, food, substrate, necessary cage accessories like hiding spots and water dishes, etc. The minimum cost of all of that is about 200 dollars. Possibly more.

If you already have that taken care of and decide to go forward with getting one, try a reptile show, a local pet store, or an online dealer.

If you go for an online dealer, try kingsnake.com, click on the classifieds tab, and choose the link for whatever species you are looking for. You'll find hundreds of classified ads from people wanting to sell snakes, anywhere from 25 dollars to 200 dollars depending on the age of the snake, the color of the snake, and the species. Be prepared to pay 25-65 dollars extra for shipping. Other reliable online dealers are reptileguru.com, LLLreptile.com, and prehistoricpets.com

Good luck, I hope this helps!

If you're looking for one cheap, find a local reptile show or reptile breeder. Pet stores are very over priced. I breed snakes and mine are less than half the price of the pet stores. Pet stores buy from breeders like myself, and then double or triple the price. You're better off just getting it straight from the source. Plus, snakes from the breeders are usually healthier than those in the pet stores.

Try to find a reptile show near you--most big cities have at least one every year and the prices are incredible compared to pet stores! Here's a link to the southeastern shows, but even if you live elsewhere you can find something like it near you.

a good snake would be a ball python. but make sure that you can take care of it first. Try your local pet store.
