my friend has a laptop that suddenly stopped working.
It is a Windows XP Pro, the laptop brand is a Compaq Armada E500

he can turn on the computer but as soon as he signs in (his computer is passworded) it Immediately shuts down on him.
he has no warranty on the computer because it's used for Business

Help would be much appreciated.

ok more info its starts making a crackling noise
like electricity

Reconnect the AC power adaptor for a snug fit. Then repair the OS by following this:

ALL files will be INTACT.

Try booting the system in Safe mode (no networking)

If it still shut down upon login, then maybe the files are corrupted.

Could be many things:

User profile folder corrupted, data corrupted, bad sectors on drive, corrupted or bad driver, virus, etc.

I think your pc has a virus.
The best solution for this is reinstall your pc.First back up all the important file on it and format all the drives and create the partition again.
