Man that was one long sentence. Just because it overheated doesn't mean there was any damage done. Does it run ok? We really need more info to help you out. When it overheated did you park it right away or run it for awhile? If you blew a head gasket you would know if by the way it runs (or doesn't run) Check and see if there is water in your oil. Look at the dipstick and see if it is clean oil or light brown milky looking.

If your oil isn't white or foamy it isn't a head gasket. So if thats normal color then yo should be ok to driving round a little.
I would try washing out the radiator well with a water hose. By spraying throught the rad. through the grill then spraying it from the inside out and changing the thermostat. both cheap trouble shooting tips.
If it has an eletric fan check that. Hot wire it also get it hot again and see if it starts while sitting. but be careful

A little, simple solution. As long as it has plenty of coolant (or water) in the radiator and you can run it a bit. Find a RADIATOR SHOP somewhere close and take it to get it checked. It is a good bet the radiator needs cleaned. Don't attempt to flush it out, you will only make matters worse. If it is in need of cleaning you can remove the radiator yourself, at home, if you have any mechanical skills. NEVER replace any part till you know the problem

there's several things you can look for, like milky looking oil or a radiator hose swelling up really big on it,also a constant miss--fire in it,maybe smoke or steam coming from the tail pipe, had starting ,and a loss of power, any of those things can indicate you have a blown head gasket, the best thing would be to run a compression check on it ,that should tell you if it has or not,its the fastest way to find out, good luck with it.

A blown head gasket would not allow you to operate the car for 30 minutes, it would overheat much sooner, partially plugged radiators and air pockets in your cooling system create scenarios such as you are describing... good luck

make sure your fan motor is working, it could be something as simple as that. If thats the problem it would take about $30 to buy a fan motor or a fuse may be blown.
