yes. just make sure it's from a reputable breeder.
actually i am about to have my new reptile pet mailed to me in mid october.
there 3 way you can buy a reptile:
1. expo or reptile show (in my opinion, is the best way to purchase a reptile.. usually they have special price -cheaper than any other method, you get to meet the breeder face to face and you are able to ask any questions for care of the pert.
2. online through breeder website. (2nd best.. but it is very possible to get a good quality pet especially if you buy from a reputable breeder. make sure you do your research. i highly suggest don't buy the reptile via online during a season when it is too cold or too hot. Your reptile might be sick or DOA. Make sure you ask about their refund policy in case of reptile is DOA or sick upon arrival)
3. The worst is through a pet store. They are expensive, low quality pet, and most of all a lot of the workers are not the most trained people. They are often gave you the wrong advice to take care of your pet. I once went to petco to buy a chameleon, and they recommend me to get a exo-terra -glass aquarium- for his enclosure.. It was a huge NO NO for chameleon to be caged in glass aquarium.. so naturally, my chameleon get sick pretty soon, so i have to return the terrarium and buy a screen caged and pay money for the vet. I then went back to petco and tell them that they should not advised people to put their chameleon in glass aquarium -they say that they do not know anything about that. And they kept theirs in glass aquarium.. So, I went inside and take a look at their chameleons, and sure enough all of their chameleons exhibit the same symptoms as mine.. I told the store that their chameleons are all sick. but they did not believe me. the next three days, their chameleons are gone.. I believe they were all dead).

Most of the time, purchasing live animals over the net is safe and harmless to the animal you have bought. You will want to know some history about the place you are buying from. There are a few people that are not the best as far as shipping and care of animals for online sale. If they do not gaurantee living specimens upon arrival or don't offer a money-back on dead arrived specimens I would stear clear of them. Another thing is to concider how far from where they are do they ship? If they are in california and wont ship to someone that is on the east coast, that means they really care for their animals, and don't want them to suffer a long trip. But, some animals can survive a long trip. For the most part, reptile will do just fine on cross-country trips. I've bought several snakes from someone in california and oregon and have had great success with the stock. I am in New York near buffalo. Of course, as winter approaches, you may want to hold off on shipping cold-blooded specimens in the winter months because planes get grounded for sometimes days on end and your animal will surely perish. Also, ups, fed-ex,rps, etc, etc. drivers tend to handle packages with less care in the winter because of the cold. Therefor, some boneheaded fed-ex driver might be tossing your beloved Honduran Milksnake around like a basketball. I have great success %95 of the time. GOOD LUCK!! And good on ya mate for looking into it before doing it. Cheers Mate!!!

It can be. www.kingsnake.com has lots of reputable breeders who are very experienced in safely shipping their reptiles. I bought a boa from a breeder listed on Kingsnake, and she arrived safe and healthy with no problems whatsoever. I would look for a breeder as opposed to a broker (if the site lists more than 10 species or so, it's a broker and the animals may not be healthy), and definitely don't buy from an auction or craigslist/public classifed.

always do your homework. Make sure that the person you order the reptile from has a live arrival guarantee and a satisfaction/health guarantee. This ensures that in the event something does go wrong you will be reimburrsed for your purchase. Go to www.kingsnake.com and take a look around in the classifieds section.

Depends on who you are dealing with. I belong to the cornsnake forum and got a good feel for the people on it. The breeders were very knowledgeable and helpful. I ordered a baby corn snake and she arrived beautifully shipped overnight, and is very healthy. Ask a lot of questions and check the breeder out first.

Yes you can.
I order live fish/corals online. Make sure you buy from a website that people have bought from before to be sure its not a scam.
Never forget to do overnight air shipping so you get your animal alive to your front door. MAKE SURE SOMEONE IS HOME AT ARRIVAL TIME!!!

It depends, try small purchases first, then work your way to larger purchases. You should try to use reputable web sites. Just like any purchase you need to be a wise consumer.

i have heard that you should never buy any type of animal over the internet unless you know the people who are selling the animal.
