After I took my car to the shop it sounds like a plane, the kind with properllers. I guess it could also sound like a high pitched puttering sound. Any ideas?

Start by checking under the hood to see if everything is back on and tight like the air filter cover but I suspect you have a hole in the exhaust system somewhere. It could be anywhere from the exhaust manifold to the tailpipe but usually is found somewhere near the muffler but also in the connections to the catalytic converter.

Try listening to your car at idle and have a friend rev it slightly (in park with the E-Brake on please) while you stand outside the car to try and identify where the noise is loudest.

Try and best locate where the noise is coming from (under the hood, the body toward the front or rear etc) before bringing the car back to the mechanic.

If it is under the hood you should be able to then focus in with a flashlight and see exactly where the sound is coming from but more than likely it is under the car in the exhaust pipe/muffler.

It is rare but also possible for a spark plug to fall out and produce that sound but usually you will notice a significant reduction in performance associated with that problem.

Some on installed an R 1340 Pratt and Whitney radial engine under the hood. What ever you do don't pull back on the steering wheel if you are going over 60 MPH. Honestly it sounds like your wheel bearing are going out, they make a terrible noise, try turning the steering wheel while driving. If the sound changes then that is the problem.
