What is it called.......?

What is this called?:

A book that you write in it about whats going on in your class then you give it to your best friend to read it and they write in it to respond to it and then u get it back and read what she wrote and u write back and give it back to her during your classes, if she´s in a diffrent class. What is that book thing called?

I do that with my friends too.
We just call it a notebook.
