White smoke is usually burning oil - could be from sitting , some could be leaking by. You didnt overfill it with oil? Did you saturate the air fliter with oil? Is the breather tube dumping oil in the aircleaner? Contrary to belief SAE 30 wt oil, 10w30/40, 5w20/30 can be used - ive used 10w30/40 in my 1992 White LT12 since it was new and its still running great .
It could also be from some condensation inside the motor- if it isnt warmed up long enough, as long as it only smokes for a few seconds, it shouldnt hurt anything.

It could be oil on the filter or in the carb, run it for a while and burn off the excess oil. Be sure you have the right oil in it, 10W-30 is not 30 weight or straight 30, also use non detergent if the manual says so, find the right oil and keep some on hand so that you are not tempted to use something else to get you by.

Check the oil level, if it is overfilled the oil will get into the area of the airfilter. As stated in a previous post, if you tipped the mower you could have gotten oil into the air filter. Check it also.

Is this a yard tractor, or a push mower?
If it's a push mower, did you tip it over to drain the oil?
If it is a push mower and you did tip it over, there is oil in the carb, cylinder, muffler.
Take the air filter off, check your oil level, crank the engine and let it run till the smoking problem stops. (should take less than 5 minutes)
Hope this helps!
